Re: how do I know if my fuel pump is bad? my 97 intrepid...
If you spray starting fluid in throttle body and it starts, you have a fuel related issue. If you hook up a gauge to the rail and the pressure is within spec, it doesn't always mean the pump is good. You may have the pressure but not the volume needed to stay running. It'll run but you'll have drivability problems and or stalling. Hope this helps. Good luck.

I would check the starter for voltage first - there is a starter relay that is grounded by the PCM. If the ASD relay is faulty the pcm won't have power. You should have battery power to the starter and power on the solenoid when you turn the key to start.
It could be a number of thing's , wouldn't think the battery cables or connections . If they were bad it would have started in the first place . Timing belt ! There again , it wouldn't start in the first place . The crank sensor would not have anything to do with the starter spinning the engine over . The fuel pump will only run for two seconds when the key is first turned on , this is to prime the fuel system ! The fuel pump will not be turned on again untill the engine is cranking , or running . The fuel pump is controlled by the PCM - engine computer through a relay (fuel pump relay) Samething for the starter control , has a relay . Testing for control of the relay ,.at the relay ! In the under hood fuse / relay box ! Find the starter motor relay an pull it out an look on the bottom , you will see four sets of numbers . 30 , 87 & 85 , 86 . 30 should have B+ volt , testing with a volt meter . 87 goes down to the starter solenoid . If you take a piece of 12 gage wire an jump these two spots in the fuse / relay box , the starter will engage if the battery , cables an the starter are good ! The other two 85 & 86 are the contol side of the relay .86 should have B+ voltage an 85 goes to the PCM , where it will supplie a ground IF ,there are no problems with the park neutral safety switch . Or also if your vehicle has a anti-theft system an no problems ! Also your vehicle has a relay called a ASD - auto shut down relay , this relay powers up a lot of systems on your vehicle , i would also check it , Relays do good bad . How to voltage drop test starter motor circuit
Yes, it is electrical alright. But probably not due to the fuel pump, I would bet the pump won't turn on as long as the dash won't, cause the ignition system is not on. It's probably either a blown fuse for the ignition or a bad ignition switch. So check all your underhood fuses.
if you can put fuel in throttle body and it runs. then it is not getting any fuel. check your fuel pump fuse and the relay, if ok, then you may have a bad fuel pump or a plugged up fuel filter. check filter and fuses first. good-day !!
Under the hood, there should be a fuse block. Remove the cover and there will be a 20amp(i think) fuse that protects the fuel pump and starter circuit. I've run into this problem many times and every time it ends up being the starter that blows the fuse.
sounds like a fuel pump or maybe check on the asd relay or fuel pump relay try taking them off and tap on them then try to start if no start sounds like a fuel pump or timing belt issue. good luck
most likely its not the fuel injectors, if you here a noise when you attempt to start the car it may be the starter trying to start the engine, if this is the case it is most likely a fuel rail issue or fuel pump the intrepid has always had a poor quality fuel pump which is in tank. if you dont here anything and your horn works and lights and radio then your starter or starter relay or stater solenoid may need to be replaced. if nothing inside works like horn or radio the there may be a ground-strap broken or your battery is dead or the battery cables went bad or broke.
