When I accelerate in my manual 02 accent the engine over revs but i don't move very fast. what could be causing this?

Ive only really tried changing the oil but that only temporarily fixed it for a short time.

I have same issue that just started but is getting worse. Going up a hill is rediculous as it revs so much but doesn't move really past 1 st gear. If I'm on a flat road, I can do normal speeds but if I got to accelerate too quickly, it revs first. It sounds like the car is trying to get there, and catches up after a few seconds. It's doing my head in!!

If the vehicle is a manual transmission and over-revs on acceleration, it could be a worn, slipping clutch disc.

My dacia sandero when i change gear the revs dont die down as if the accelarator is sticking but it isnt?

  1. Worn clutch: If the clutch is worn, it may not be disengaging properly when you change gears, causing the engine to continue to rev as if you were still accelerating. This can also cause difficulty shifting gears or a slipping feeling when accelerating.
  2. Dirty or faulty throttle body: The throttle body controls the amount of air entering the engine and adjusts the idle speed. If it's dirty or faulty, it may not be closing properly after you release the accelerator pedal, causing the engine to continue to rev.
  3. Vacuum leak: A vacuum leak can cause the engine to rev excessively or idle roughly. The leak can be caused by a cracked or disconnected vacuum hose, or a malfunctioning intake manifold gasket.
  4. Faulty idle air control valve: The idle air control valve regulates the engine's idle speed. If it's faulty, it may not be closing properly after you release the accelerator pedal, causing the engine to continue to rev.

Hyundai accent idles fine, no power on acceleration but will pick up revs if accelerated gently. new pcv valve, resealed valve cover gasket. no engine warning light. new fuel filter, petrol pump pre filter...

Check and make sure the catalic converter is not blocked, its a common problem on accents.

Whats alot of carbon, if it reaaly bad you might want to remove intake manifold and clean it, or if its not to bad run engine at 1500 revs and spray nulon carby cleaner in slowly to clean it out.

My 2003 neon stalls as soon as I take my foot off of the accelerator pedal or slow down it just dies....i put it in neutral and rev the engine and it revs to 4000 rpm and just breaks up....i just changed...

you may have a dirty fuel filter or the throttle plate may need cleaning.the throttle plate is the valve that moves in the intake when you move the gas pedal.if they get too dirty they cause a restriction in the intake and cause the car to stall.it also could be a tps sensor problem but this should put the check engine light on but not always.the breaking up of the motor when you rev it to 4000 rpm`s is the rev limiter in the computer that shuts down the firing of the plugs and injecotrs so you don`t cause damage to the motor when there is no load on it.

1995 1500cc Hyundai Accent seems have a fuel starvation problem.

Your gas tank must of been crushed,in some kind of offroad incident because if you can't fill it up the filler tube must be kinked.Or the pollution system is faulty such as the purge valve or vapor canister.

Poor acceleration, poor gas mileage

I have the same problem as talked about above. 2002 Hyundai accent gsi. HORRIBLE gas mileage. I only get about 320 km per full tank. My driving habits are good. i took it to the garage and they put it on the computer and no error codes showed up. Question: Can a MAP sensor be faulty but NOT show up on the computer diagnostic? I had my O2 sensor checked out and my exhaust, and changed the flex pipe. Car runs pretty good just horrible gas mileage and kinda crappy power. Changed fuel and air filter. Cleaned the fuel system entirely ($80 at garage not $4 bottle).

Anyone ever use a resistor in the MAP sensor?

What's Wrong!!!

Could be bad motor mounts, does your motor rock back and forth a lot when you rev it.
