How do I no if I have clutch problems

It sounds funny and the gearbox shifter shakes about.

IF THE CLUTCH IS OPERATING PROPERLY I WOULD TAKE A LOOK AT THE MOUNTS TO SEE IF ONE IS BROKEN OR LOOSE .

Clutch problems ae indicated by slipping ( engine rpms rising but not going ant where), slipping may be a faulty clutch master cylinder, shuddering as you let the clutch out ( clutch plate covered with grease /oil ---OR--- faulty engine mounts. pedal to the floor is a problem in the hydraulics or a cable failure. A cable failed and jammed will also cause a slipping clutch
so to summerise ,if the clutch is slipping --check out the hydraulics and cables. If it is shuddering --check out the engine mounts. Basically if it starts to slip after being driven for a period of time then it will be the clutch pressure plate /clutch plate worn

No it has to come out if its a manual ,no idea about the auto version ,very few vehicles are made where the clutch on a manual ****** can be changed without taking a gearbox out ,funny enough a porsche can be done without taking the gearbox out and a datsun 100a or a triumph 1300 but few and far between

I have 1990 accord lx 5speed that is stuck in 4th gear but the shifter moves in all gears..To get home I had to ride the clutch in 4th all the way home..Checked the links from shifter to trans everything...
Do you still feel the same feedback from gear lever when you change gear or it appear loose? It looks like a gearbox problem, maybe due to low gearbox oil something has broken inside the gearbox.

Hi Rach,
Do the gears change with the engine off? If they change you have a clutch assembly problem. If the gears refuse when off the problem is with the gearbox.

Started having trouble getting it into gear while stopped. Would have to rev up engine a bit and play the shifter in. About 20 min. later while shifting from 2nd to 3rd had no gears . now it won't find any...
Sounds like your cluch has worn out. Can you select gears normally when the engine is off? If you can, then maybe you could check the clutch cable adjustment. That may fix the problem. If not, with the car in an area away from other cars and buildings, select a gear with the engine off, and with your foot on the clutch, start the car. If the car starts and feels like it wants to drive off (with your foot still on the clutch), then the clutch is not disengaging the engine from the gearbox. Gearbox removal time unfortunately.

After starting the car and pressing on the clutch, my shifter wont go into any gears, i go to put it in first and the shifter itself wont go in, what could cause this
If the shifter feels loose, the shifter linkage / damper to the gearbox became disconnected, or broken. These parts are serviceable, and should be replaced when shifting ceases to be accurate, and gears are hard to find. If the shifter feels normal, then the clutch is out of adjustment and not disengaging completely, or there is a failure of some sort inside the gearbox.

I cant shift into reverse,i can change all other gears(1-5)and also there sounds like a bubbleing sound comming from the gear stick,i know this sounds mad but thats what it sounds like,and the car keeps...
1 of 2 things, 1, your clutch needs slight adjustment as reverse needs that bit extra of free play, the 2nd thing it could be is the sycromch for the reverse gear, this would probably mean a new gearbox,

if your lucky it might be a linkage or control arm between the shifter and the gearbox that has come off or broken climb underneath and see what is going on between shifter and gearbox get someone to move the shifter while you have a look glenn......

1988 golf 1.3 gearbox/clutch funny sound?
First check the oil level in the gearbox. The noise you hear sounds as though the pressure plate of the clutch is faulty. If every time you press the clutch pedel the noise goes away it points to the clutch. If this model has a manual clutch cable adjuster, try and adjust it to see if there is any inprovement.

audi a3 2008 radio wont turn on Just got back to the car after a very hot day, and my aftermarket radio wont turn on. I checked the fuses in the engine, left panel and back of the radio all are not blown. even checked with the old original radio , still nothing. i checked and the power voltage that get to the radio in low and unstable ,about 4-5 V . Also I didn't touch the car battery or replaced it.
