SOURCE: Hi, I have a 1997 Porsche

misfire :-------- try checking your 02 sensors /fuel pump and filter.

for 51 cylinder misfire :---
Change the coil. Period. Very easy to remove from the vehicle if it's a 4 cyl. Follow that spark plug wire from the spark plug to the other end. What it's attached to you should replace
for 54 cylinder 5 misfire :---First you have to eliminate the most obvious problems, like spark plug and spark plug wire. If you replace those and you still have a misfire, then it's a good idea to look for a vacuum leak in the intake manifold

Porsche 993 timing chain mark

hello there
For you Porsche there is no mark on timing gear. You need to use a special tool made by Porsche which is connected in the back of the camshaft tower to set the timing on cams.
Two different tools left and right.have a look here

My 97 cavalier needs a new water pump. it has a2.4 l dohc 5 spd. do i have to remove the timing chain cover to fix?

yes you must remove the timing chain cover, timing chain, timing chain case, and exhaust manifold, takes about 6 hrs to change, I know I got the same motor and car, good luck and have fun, also you will need to buy a gasket set for the timing chain
