We had this same problem n a Sonoma pu.we had to hook up a manual control on the cable that goes to the actuator,it was a simple bolt and nut system that u pull out and tighten with the nut ,it works and your inside controls still disingage the transfer case.

SOURCE: 4 wheel drive will not engage - how do I troubleshoot

The vacuum switch on the transfercase is most likely the problem. If you remove it and the plunger is stuck in, replace it and your 4wd should engage again.

You probably have a bad encoder motor. It is located on the side of the transfer case on the drivers side.It is black. The other problem they had with these was the switch but you have already replaced this so your next thing is the encoder motor.Hope this helps.Good luck.

SOURCE: My 2002 2500HD 4x4 front axle not engaging

Try jacking up one side of the front and putting it on a jackstand. Then turn key on(but dont start it) and put it in 4hi. Try to spin the tire in the air. The drive shaft should not turn nor the wheel. If the wheel does then maybe the acuator is not moving in the axle. It worked when you pulled it out but it might be hanging up on something in the axle.

SOURCE: 2002 trailblazer making loud humming noise when driving

When you turn right - you're taking weight off the right wheel.
If the noise dissipates - the passenger side wheel bearing is most likely to blame.

Thanks

I have an 02 chevy trailblazer gear shifter will move but car won't move in reverse or drive now service 4 wheel drive light is on and the switch nuetral is lighting up but its on 2 wheel drive

May be broken 4WD actuator (quite common) which has stuck between engaged and disengaged. Remove and inspect actuator, but first examine all linkage for damage or having come loose.

I have a chevy trailblazer and the 4x4 is not working. lights come on but the front wheels are not pulling.

The Selectable Four Wheel Drive (S4WD) system uses an actuator located on the right side of the engine oil pan to engage and disengage the front drive axle. This actuator, or the mechanizm that it connects to is probably malfunctioning. If your light is coming on, most likely the problem is NOT in the transfer case.

2005 Trailblazer XT won\'t go into 4WD. Front hubs don\'t engage with switch in cab. It will gear down to 4wd Lo but front wheels won\'t engage. Please help. Can\'t afford the dealer!

i've been told it was the 4wd actuator located on the passenger side near were the cv joint goes in to the front axle a good test is to floor jack it up so both wheels are off the ground and have someone on the other side , put in nutrual turn both wheels one way at same time and the 4wd drive shaft should turn if not its your actuator, costs about $86 for anew actuator and takes about 5 mins to change once you have the tire off

Lost 4 wheel drive in 2003 trailblazer. What are some things i can check to solve problem.

If your trailblazer has a dash mounted button to engage the four wheel drive then first I would check the fuse panel and see if any fuses have blown. Depending on milage you may have had a servo fail. A servo is an electrical device that engages the four wheel drive when the button on your dash is pressed.

4 wheel drive does not engage properly

it uses ATF but it is not part of the trans, have (it is easy) the transfer case fluid changed and get back to me, there is a drain plug and fill plug, it holds around 2 quarts, drain it and refill to just below the lip of the fill plug threads
