Have you checked transmission fluid with vehicle at normal operating temperature and on level ground? Also is the check engine light on.If so hook up OBD 2 auto scanner to pull error codes.Might want to check with dealership to see if vehicle has cable as part of shifter limnkage.
it is possible that you've got an issue with your power steering system, but the noise should be equally noticeable in both forward and reverse. the front differential is inside your transmission and if the differential is worn it will whine. if you pay close attention you may notice the noise when in first gear going from acceleration to deceleration at about 20mph. if this happens, it's most likely your transmission that needs to be replaced.
I have same problem - intermittently in my 2005 Honda Odyssey (Australian Version)! Same story with dealer response since of course it will not do it when I take it in (twice). Honda dealer says he cannot repair problem unless he sees it is broken! Very frustrating!!!!
I have had some success by putting the key in and out of lock several times and then moving it about when I try to start the car - normally this fixes it. I only hope this does not break permanently when I am far from home!
Keen to hear if others have this problem and have found a permanent solution.
