If the smoke coming out (the back of the car exhaust) is dark grey...then you have a oil burning problem..this will cause your oil to be low sometimes quickly...if it is leaking out, sometimes oil leaks out on to exhaust under the hood, and can burn making smoke under the hood.. If the smoke is more white, then you have a head gasket problem. If you need to jump start your car, maybe you should drive to a national chain of auto parts store...they test batteries free...and test alternators free too...If you ran too low on oil, you might have a serious engine problem like a seized or nearly seized bearing, worn rings, or nearly seized motor.

Peal back the protective wiring cover on the wires until you can see a color of the wire in both directions. Then match the wires.

What makes a burn oil smell on a 99 Mercury Villager

Do you have blue smoke coming out of the exhaust. This would mean that you are burning the oil. Also check for any oil on the engine especially around valve cover

I changed the oil sensor on my 1997 mercury villager van, and it is still leaking oil. The oil lite never has come on and I checked oil last night and it was one quart low. Could the gasket on the oil...

The oil is leaking from wherever you see oil on the engine. Sometimes there can be to much oil covering the engine and it needs to be degreased. A dye can also be added to the oil that will illuminate when a dye light is used to help track down a leak. If the oil pressure switch you removed wasn't wet with oil or leaking than it wasn't bad.

It could be anything from the valve cover gaskets, cam seals, front crank seal, oil pan gasket, rear main seal or head gaskets.
