1993 Lexus LS400 acceleration stalls or surges

1993 Lexus LS400 starts fine. Will accelerate slowly, but if you accelerate normally, it will stall and surge. Flashes codes 41, 47, and 55. Tps sensor checked good. Wires checked good. Knock sensor wires checked good.

41 is tps. 47 is sub tps. 55 is knock sensor. fuel filter was replaced before this problem began.

Using Haynes electrical manual. Going to check the uel filter and pump. Someone else replaced those.

have you replaced the fuel filter lately. in your manual what is code 41, 47 I know 55 should be end of codes.... I am only speculating that the fuel filter or fuel pump is the device in question.

I HAD THE SAME PROBLEM WITH MY CAR. 93 LS 400. THAT WOULD BE YOUR FUEL FILTER OR THE FUEL PUMP GOING BAD. TRY CHANGING THE FILTER FIRST. THE DEALER TRIED TO CHARGE ME $980 TO CHANGE FUEL PUMP.

1) Those flash codes are concomitant with faulty TPS and Knock sensors. Try swapping them out.
2) If it persists, i would also recommend to change the fuel pump. It may be that when you accelerate the motor is unable to pump more fuel, and thus only works fine on normal idle, while you're at it you might as well change the fuel filter one time if you have changed it last service.
3) I also agree with any vacuum or suction leaks you may have along your air intake system, while you're at it buy some MAF cleaner and give that MAF a spray.

This is to common of a problem on these aged ls400's. what is causing this in many cases is that the insulation glued to hood loosens over time with help of the air intake suction pulling on it. the more you accelerate, the more the air suction. it gets to the point where it gets sucked over the front of the air intake casing when you accelerate causing the engine to stall. when you pop the hood, the insulation may be in place. the majority of the glue can be intact but the small portion that is directly over air intake port may be separated from the hood with enough play to allow it to be sucked over the front of the air intake, causing the engine to stall

I have a ls400 1993.My car starts fine. But when I accelerate it moves very slow them picks up speed after a few minutes. repeats at every stop... Please help.

Throttle position sensor may be faulty. They do not always show fault codes.

There is a vehicle speed sensor too that may also be at fault. but the TPS is easier to get at initially.

Wish I had an answer - sounds very much like a problem I am having with my '92 LS400. I have a parts car, and have changed out the ECM, fuel pump, injectors, fuel pilter, fuel pressure regulator, ran the can with exhaust unbolted (check for clogged CATs, checked out my timing belt for slippage amoung other things, and nothing works. I have no check engine light on. Do you?
