Well code 11 means the computer thinks the cam timing is too far advanced, which could be a timing belt issue.
Code 34 is supposed to be a problem with the turbo if your car has one.
Trouble codes seldom mean a sensor has failed.

Testimonial: "Okay the codes were for the camshaft sensor and camshaft over advanced. I replaced the camshaft sensor in that did not fix the problem. I'm going to try changing the oil next. But if that does not work what else should I try next? Thank you everyone for your comments and advice"

    Sorry it was code p0043

Ok, well code 43 is for a problem with one of the O2 sensor's heater circuit. Each O2 sensor has a heater built into the sensor to make it work faster when the engine is cold. You would need a repair manual to how to test the circuit.

SOURCE: a p0011 code and camshaft sensor replacement did not cure problem

well i know on the v6 that is true you replaced all of them. Not sure of 4 cyl but seems like it should be the same. Also I know on the v6 the variable valve timing set up sometimes did some weird failures triggering a cam sensor code. It could be anything from sludgy oil hanging up in the vvt hub or clogged passages or bad solenoids. but before going into all that(well besides maybe an oil change) I would go for the crank sensor.

SOURCE: replacing bad camshaft position sensor

  1. Disconnect battery ground cable.
  2. Remove water pump pulley attaching bolts, then the serpentine belt and water pump pulley.
  3. Disconnect sensor wiring connector and remove sensor retaining bolt.
  4. Twist and pull sensor to remove.
Reverse procedure to install and prior to installing new sensor, lubricate sensor O-ring.

It is located under the water pump. Make sure when you remove the sensor that you rotate the crank shaft and look in the hole to make sure the pick up magnet is still in there. Sometimes they come loose and cause a no start or long crank. You will need to have the code cleared still.

SOURCE: I have a P0011 "Camshaft Position/Bank 1 code.

OK check the CMP sensor connector for cleanliness, sometimes oil can get in and disrupt the signal transmission to the ECU. Check the wire loom continuity all the way back from the CMP to the ECU. If the error code persists remove the cam sensor, clean its tip of any debris and refit.

Testimonial: "Thanks joe2mercs...you had the problem diagnosed correctly. Cleaned and light has not come back on. U saved me a lot of $."

SOURCE: what are the codes P0011 on a 2005 VW passat?

A code P0011 refers to the VVT (variable valve timing) or VCT (variable camshaft timing) components and the car's PCM (powertrain control module, also called an ECM). That consists of a few different components but the P0011 DTC specifically refers to the camshaft (cam) timing. In this case, if the cam timing is above a set limit (over-advanced), the engine light will be illluminated and the code will be set. The "A" camshaft is either the intake, left, or front camshaft.

Most likely a P0011 DTC will result in one of the following: hard starting, poor idle, and/or stalling. There are potentially other symptoms as well. Of course, when trouble codes are set, the MIL (malfunction indicator lamp, a.k.a. the check engine light) illuminates.

A P0011 DTC trouble code may be caused by one or more of the following:
Incorrect camshaft timingWiring problems (harness/wiring) in intake timing control valve control solenoid systemContinuous oil flow to VCT piston chamberFailed timing valve control solenoid (stuck open)

This DTC code is a result of a mechanical fault of the VCT unit or related components, so there is no need for electrical diagnosis. Refer to vehicle specific repair manual to perform component tests for the VCT unit. Notes: Dealer techs have advanced tools and the ability to follow detailed troubleshooting steps, including the ability to test components using a scan tool.

Hope helps.

Engine light codes p0010 & p0011, replaced intake solenoid valve kit, and 3 weeks later. same codes p0010 & p0011 return

code p 0010 refers to camshaft position (CMP) actuator, intake /left/front, bank 1---circuit malfunction====causes --wiring---CMP actuator---ECM
code p 0011 refers to camshaft position (CMP) sensor , intake /left/front, bank 1--timing over-advanced/system performance===causes ---valve timing---engine mechanical fault--cmp actuator-wiring
if the engine is running as expected , it would be logical to eliminate mechanical and valve timing fault
buy replacing what you have , it is possible that there is a wiring connection problem that you temporarily fixed by moving the harness around
At this point it indicates problem CMP sensors, so take it to an accredited service specialist that has experience on your make of vehicle and get a diagnosis done and a quote

2004 vw jetta 2.0 l with code p0011

P0011 is the code for timing over advance. It is related to the camshaft position sensor. Can be replaced for usually under 100 bucks. (if you know how) bring it in and your looking at 5 or more. Its hard to be an honest mechanic.

Volkswagen passat wagon 2004 codes p0300 p0302 p0304 p0011 runs fine

You have random misfire codes as well as misfires detected on cylinders #2 and #4. P0011 is likely the root cause of the misfire being detected
P0011 VOLKSWAGEN - 'A' Camshaft Position Timing Over-Advanced Or System Performance problems.

Possible causes- Dirty engine oil
- Low engine oil level
- Camshaft actuator circuit open or shorted
- Camshaft actuator circuit poor electrical connection
- Faulty camshaft actuator

There may be a factory bulletin on this code, check with the VW dealer on that. Possible defective Camshaft actuator.

Does anyone know if the P0011 is related to the timing belt. I have a 2004 VW Passat.

Maybe, but I doubt it.
The code is for a camshaft actuator that controls cam timing.
The actuator could be faulty or not getting enough oil pressure, among other things.

My car is running codes P0011 and P2181. Can you tell me what that is please. 2004 vw jetta gl

P0011 - Camshaft positioning sensor
P2181 - Engine cooling temperature sensor.
If you have a repair manual (chilton/haynes/etc) these should be fairly simple fixes.
Camshaft positioning sensor for my car was $35 and took about 15 minutes to change.

2carpros.com suggested the P2181 is also fairly easy to replace
