Get a sheet of paper do a line drawing of all the pulleys in the positions they are on the engine then visually note the run of the belt and join the pulleys on your paper with lines to each one before you remove the belt. Then you will possibly that one of the pulleys is an automatic tensioner, you may require a spanner to to move this to unlaod the tension from the belt so you can then remove it. Hope this helps you on your quest.

buy a new tensioner assembley and idler pully and might as well get a new belt while your at it. you will need a 3/8 ratchet a 15 mm socket and a 13 mm socket there is one bolt holding on tensioner remove it discard old tensioner put new tensioner in place and tight bolt. second remove bolt from idler pulley discard old pulley put inton place and tighen bolt. next install belt fallow belt routing digram put head of 3/8 rattachet into hole on tensioner or on bolt head of tensioner pulley depending on style of tensioner and pull or push to create slack in belt push belt into groves on all pulleys and release tensioner

Can you bypass the a/c pulley putting on the serpentine belt on a 97 Buick regal 3800 supercharged

Contact your local NAPA auto parts store and ask if there is a by-pass pulley available for the AC on this model. If there is, you will be able to do it. If none available, you may have to replace the compressor

I want to know is it necessary to havena

yes. it is part of the intake system and the computer relies on the air that is being forced into it. the 3.8 is a great engine and you have a one of a kind. or one of few. but the engine is built with less compression to accommodate the supercharger. to run without it in the long run will cause major problems.

Drive belt diagram

Hello! I'm not sure if you have a N/A or Supercharged 3.8 - so I've put both diagrams below.
You'll need a 15mm wrench to move the tensioner pulley.
