My 1997 Toyota Camry le 4 cylinder automatic whistles when the rpms reach about 3000; whistling intensifies with the increase of rpms. It's coming from the engine area.. I noticed my car also puts off an awful smell of exhaust when the whistling intensifies. I was told I have a possible vacuum leak by a few mechanics I know personally. One last thing that I believe could be relevant to the problem is that the acceleration is poor. When applying extra pressure, it starts to make a faint groaning sound; fading as the acceleration catches on

blower motor might be going out. worn out bearings.

Sounds like 2nd gear in the transmission is slipping. Cars usually shift at 15-20 mph from first to 2nd. First check the trans fluid.

maybe bad bearing or could be tire bad

Please try an remove the front roof rack. This may be your problem. You likely never use it anyway! Do let me know if this solves your whistle.

Check air duct between TBI and air filter could have a small hole where air is being **** in.

right under the air cleaner mounted to the frame
