You might have lost a bolt from the gear shifting leaver, which holds it to the transmission, when that happens usually it feels like that.

I have a 1998 Ford Laser manual hatchback. It will not go into first gear or reverse when the motor is running. I have to turn the motor off and put it in gear and then restart the motor. It also sometimes...

If you have a cable operated clutch then I suspect that it is stretched or is breaking and not completely disengaging the clutch. First and reverse are the 2 gears that require the clutch to be completely disengaged. As for the rest if the engine rpms and road speed are close to compatible then the synchro rings will allow engagement of the gears no problem. Check the gear selector lever pivot pin in the top of the turret on the gear box as it may be loose or worn and that makes for a sloppy gear stick movement.

When i start to drive in first gear, i experience extreme shaking

If you have a manual gear box there are two things that you can check. First is the engine mounts especially the rear one to see if the rubber has broken away. Check all engine mounts for the same problem.. The second is a failing clutch or if you have a cable operated clutch it points to engine mounts. What appears to be happening is when you engage the clutch in first gear the torque reaction of the engine is rolling the gear box away from the clutch actuation arm or lever. The clutch slips ,the engine rolls back ,the clutch engages , the engine rolls and so you have a bad shudder. When you are moving the reaction is less as you move up through the gears . If all is good then have a qualified clutch and brake specialist do a check on the clutch itself.

you can adjust the clutch on the clutch pedal by undoing a nut. either wind it in or out til it selects gears properly. otherwise its the 2 linkage wires that run from the gear box to the gear stick. wires cost about

Im having trouble shifting gears in my 2001 mitsubishi . had the gear box fluids checked and its fine. ******* down gear is hardest. it acts as if it wants to stick.

Get your clutch checked, if you don't have a good functional clutch it makes shifting very hard and in long term will damage your gearbox.

My shifter on my 86 ford mustang is stuck in firdt gear what coul

Hi, if your car is manual gear box and its stuck in first then it could be one of a couple of things if the gear stick is solid and wont move out of the first gear possition then the chances are that it could be either the clutch has gone or the thrust bearing on the clutch has failed these parts both come in a clutch kit.

you could try rocking the car backwards and forwards whilst moving the gearstick to see if it frees up out of first gear.

Can you start the car up with the clutch pressed down and drive the car in first gear as normal if this is the case and you can drive the car in first gear and the clutch seems fine then it could be a more serious fault inside the gearbox even broken selector in the box.

let me know the outcome then i can assist you further ok

I am having trouble getting my 1990 2.5 short wheel base manual mitsubishi pajero into gear.when in gear if i press in the clutch the jeep stays in gear, i have checked both the master and slave cylinders...

Does it have an inspection cover you can remove to see what, if anything is moving inside when peddle depressed? Make sure emergency/handbrake is on, and wheels blocked to prevent roll while under there. May be faulty clutch assy.
