You simply mark the location of the rotor in the old distributor and insert the new distributor with the rotor pointing at the same location. You will also need to change the carburator, but that is it.

SOURCE: need wireing diagram to change 72 nova over to hei distributor

Hey , just take the positive wire from the coil you are removing and feed it to the + terminal on the HEI dist. cap.the other terminal under there is for your tachometer. If you are mounting a master kill switch in the bumper for drag racing- attatch the kill wire to the tach terminal also.
Thats it you just plug the three wire pigtail from the dist. base(pickup) to the cap and you are off.
Remember firing order is 18436572 in a clockwise direction. to find #1 remove #1 plug and have someone"bump" the engine over while holding your finger over the hole-carefull. then line up the slotted mark on the crank pulley with the big notch on the timing indicator. Good luck

2bbl intake will not fit 87-95 small blocks heads are diferent from pre 86.the center bolts on your manifold are angled different than the front and back bolts.your 2bbl manifold has the same angle bolts front to back.i converted my buddies 89 to carb, had to make adapter plate for carb.but to make a long story short there is a lot of power loss and fuel economy your better of with tbi.

SOURCE: Gm carb 305 timing problem

On the distributor, Check for advance weighrs. As your rpm increases the weights advance the timing. If they are rusted or a spring is streched or broken you will have to correct that. Hold the drive end and rotate thw rotor end back and forth to make dure the advance plate works freely and not sticking. It should spring back when you release it after turning it.What yr. is this rngine?Carburated, never mind. Ok, making sure the distributor is all free and cleaned up. Turn the dist. upside down and shake to make sure nothing falls out. You seem to have the timing thing down, but let me go through it just so I keep my train of thought.Actually I'm thinking out loud. #1 cyl on comp stroke-timing marks set to 8 degreesBTC. GO TO DISTRIBUTORdeternine #1 plug wire tower. Regardless of distributor body position as long as little tin window is around 6 o clock, Insert the distributor so the rotor is pointing at #1 tower.the mark you made so you know where that is..Should be @ 4 or5 o clock. When you drop the distributorin you will notice it turn so compensate soby dropping it a tooyh or two back. The rotor should be in the sweep of the #1 tower when you rotate the distributor. Hook up the coil wire and put the clamp on the distrutor but don't tighten it.With ignition on, #1 plug in #2 wire, lay the plug down on a good ground. Now slowly rotate the dristributor until #1 pops out a spark for you. You may have to go back and forth until you feel comfortable with when the coil fires. I don't know if you have a vacuum advance or not, but the vacuum advance points in the direction of distributor rotation. You want the spark to hit as you are rotating the distributor against the rotor rotation. Now the spark will hit at 8 degrees BTC before any weight or vacuum plays into it. Snug down your distributor and if you do have a little tin window, Stick the ole' in there and adjust the points to 28-32 degrees dwell. If no window, no sweat. It's an HEI, right? Let me know if you run into trouble. You can check your max advance if you like butgoing by that is assuming it's ok when it's not doing 3000 rpms. Better we assume the max is ok and know the bottom (start and low speed) is right on. Good Luck.

I have a 1974 reinell with a 305 Chevy v8. I am not getting power to the coil.. it turns over but no spark... Where is the fuse box located so I can check blown fuses? Any other things I need to check for...

You need 12v to the + side of the coil and you need to break the ground signal at the points. An easy fix for you would to replace your points distributor with an HEI distributor.

Can I interchange a 1980-1985,305 chevy engine with a 1991 305 chevy?

as it is the basic 305 block the differences may be fuel injection over carburettor which may require sensor attachments but basically the engine should just slot in place.

DOES A 1987 305 CHEVY ENG HAS A COMPUTOR.

As long as it is a carbureted engine , simply change intakes and install your four barrel . Yes it is computerized , but will not interfere with carb swap .

What wires do we have to run to make a chevy 327 start and run with a points distrubitor .

This should be simple, run one wire from a switch on hot thru a ballast resistor(available from NAPA for about 15 dollars) to the Positive side of the ignition coil. Make sure this wire stays hot while the engine is turning over, if this is in a 85 truck use the wire that hooked to the origional distributor. Then run a wire from the negative side of the coil to the points, thats all there is to it. Just curious as to why you are using points instead of the HEI distributor that came in the truck. You only need to change the module from the 5 pin module to the 4 pin module, and this will eliminate the computer control in the ignition system.

Want to swap motor with a 1993 gmc 350

faxonautoliterature has a manual specifically for swapping newer GM engines inot older GM vehicles for about $25. It should answer any questions you might have but experience says it shouldn't be hard to do. Your old intake and carb and an HEI distributor and you should be good to go. Hope this helps.
