You have to remove the intake tube and then it should expose the ignition system on the drives side of the cylinder head... or... follow the spark plug wires...

SOURCE: No fire from coil to #1 cylinder

Ok since you did all that if you want to swap around fuel injectors taking note where you put cylinder 1 injector. Lets say you swapped it with cylinder 4 . Now if you get a different code say P0304 which is for cylinder 4 misfire then you know it is your injector at fault. These are wear items and should be replaced every 100,000 miles.
Also i would suggest if you dont want to do that is get some good high octane gas when you are completely empty and fill to 1/4 tank now put in Lucas Oil fuel injector cleaner and run the car till empty. Now fill up tank with high octane gas in see if this helps. Clear code after your second tank of gas and see if the code comes back. if code does pop back up then i would do the swapping of injectors as i stated earlier. I hope this helps and good luck with the diagnosis.

SOURCE: removal of a 93 pontiac sunbird LE transmission

You can remove it WITHOUT REMOVING THE MOTOR. It's not that hard, I was able to put in a new clutch system within 8 hours. Here is pretty much what you have to do:

When looking at the engine after lifting the hood, you need to put a jack under the motor and if you have it, either another jack under the trans or what works MUCH easier is an Engine hoist.

Disassemble the motor mount on the right side of the engine compartment (When looking at it from the front of the car. Remove the tire, remove the brake pad and disc rotor from the assembly and pull the nut that is holding the drive shaft in place. You can then just tap it with a hammer until you release the shaft from the hub assembly. (You know that hunk of steel or metal that your wheel studs stick out from.) You can then undo the bolts around the transmission, then use the jack to lower the motor until the trans just clears the wheel well.

You slide it out with either the jack or use the engine hoist ( I WOULD PREFER TO USE THE SECOND JACK TO SLIDE THE TRANNY RIGHT OUT OF THE WHEEL WELL)

Then use the Hoist when trying to line it back up. Put everything back the way you removed it and there we go.

[email protected] (You can message me if you have anymore questions.)

I HAVE A NINETY ONE THAT I REPLACED THE CLUTCH IN SO THAT WOULD BE THE EASIEST WAY TO MY KNOWLEDGE.

SOURCE: I cannot find the turn signal flasher on my 1993 Pontiac Sunbird

Had same problem. Hard to find but it's there. Pull off bottom kick plates and feel around in behind heater and stereo contols for a regular round top flasher.

I'm not real familiar with the ignition system on the Sunbird...that being said did you have the ecm re-programmed for you car? I'm not sure if .
it applies to your particular vehicle but most ecm's have to programmed when installed in a new vehicle. If it was programmed for your car then I would say to start at the beginning....check your battery, your ground, all your connections, fuses, relays, etc...

electric ignition module is bad, or maybe the safety shutdown relay, also check to see if the timing belt has snapped, it happened to me, lol replaced plugs, wires, coil, ignition module, and turned out to be the timing belt had snapped causing the safety shutdown relay to shut off power to the coil and fuel pump, good luck :)

Hello,i have a Pontiac Sunbird-93 that has no power to the coils. The ecm is new,any ideas?

Check the connection to the ignition module and the module it self. The other thing to keep in mind is the crank and cam shaft sensor's. if the sensor's are bad, the ecm will not know when to activate the coils to the right spark plugs from the module.
So I suspect the coil assembly is the problem. This car has what is called the DIS, Direct Ignition System It contains 2 coils along with the ignition module. I suspect that the one coil must control plugs 1 & 4. The DIS gets a reference signal from the cam position sensor, which then in turn communicates with the ECM or computer control module. From what I''ve read below 400 rpm the DIS controls the timing and above 400 the ECM Regulates timing. Good luck and hope this helps. keep in mind the module is around $200.00 so try to do the salvage yard for around $35.00 and have it tested at like Auto Zone free of charge, and if it's bad the salvage yard will credit you or you can pick an other one.

Good luck and and hope this helps.

93 pontiac sunbird. Ign.ken in on position and is stuck in that position. Can't turn to start or to turn off to remove key.

Is the column round or square? I think 1993 is round. Sounds like the ignition lock cylinder needs replaced.
