How do i remove a brake light switch from a 2004 polo 1.9tdi

This is a common occurance in vw's.
In order to turn off the airbag light you need to have a scan tool hooked up to your car because the airbag detected a fault of some sort, or it could be a faulty component in the airbag system itself.

you have to have the reader (pc )to hook it up to your car compouter and erase the codes

hi when you go under the dash and look up to the brakepedal, you will see a switch, maybe you have to remove one piece of cover under dash, witch detect the pedal moving and switches on the brakelights. when you connect the two wires an the lights come up, all system is ok. correct or replace the switch. good luck.

lift up the rear seats (the bottoms, they lift up and slide forward) there should be 2 black connections there, check they are connected. Check your brake fluid level, if both are ok, (the following is just a guess) disconnect battery for about 30-45mins. this should reset the error (if there is one). failing that, VAG-COM it or take it and get it checked properly

Check & replace if necessary the brake pedal switch placed above pedals on the support.
If the problem still occurs you might access the ABS ECU (Electronic Control Unit) using diagnostic equipment connected to the data link connector of the car, in order to pull out all DTC (Diagnostic Trouble Codes) memored.
Then you will be able to replace bad piece(s) and fix the problem by erasing all DTC stocked inside ABS ECU & reset it.

1. Remove the cover panel above the driver's side foot well ...
2. Locate old switch, push in brake pedal, and twist switch body to remove ...
3. Unplug 4 pin connector from old switch and plug into new switch (it only goes one way...don't force it!). Insert new switch into frame and depress brake petal. You should turn it until it locks into place and is positioned like the original.



4. Start the engine. Press the brake pedal once or twice and the EPC light should go out ...
5. Replace the cover over the foot well and you are done! If not, check the 4 pin connection and make sure it is fully seated in the switch. Also check to see if you can hear the switch engage when you press the brake pedal ... if not, you will need to remove the switch and adjust the push rod. The rod will move in and out for adjustment. Check to see if the brake lights come on when you press the brake pedal as well!
