1998 DeVille: what happens if I put 10w-40 oil in a 1998 cadilla...

I believe that 10w30 is recommended for the vehicle, but 10w-40 is a good substitute if 10w30 is not available.

Probably nothing bad will happen, but if the Driver Information System shows low oil pressure, revert back to the recommended viscosity.

I have a 55 plate X Type jaguar Sovereign and the oil presure light started to flicker today, is a oil pump change a big job?

its a major job on this vehicle, in the workshop manual it says 17hours remove and install, so you could say this is a major job, but it might not be that have you had your oil presure switch checked first, it will be a lot less money to get that checked first....hope this helped

Brown thick oil on oil stick & seams to run out of water very fast brown thick water in radiator

sounds like the head gasket is shot, if its eating water and contaminating the oil, only way to be sure it to get a compression test or test it yourself, presure should be overy 100 psi and within 10% among the cylinders
