i have a 2004 chevy silverdo with a np8 transfer case that went .... that little anti rattle clip on the case is removed and a new wide one that fit ...
The series 700R4 that should be in your truck is known for having problems with the reaction shell inside the trans breaking and it will make a grinding noise. If you have 4WD it also could be transfer case issue .
ok, while stopped put car in neutral, shift transfer case lever to 4high or 4 low whichever you prefer, and voila put it back in drive and your now in 4x4
I would replace the 4 x 4 actuating switch located top rear of transfer case. The switch has a 2 wire harness hooked to it. The same thing happened to mine. Cost me $80.00 and 30 minutes.
