My 1998 dodge stratus is acting strange, chugging & stuttering. I just replaced the oil valve cover gaskets, replaced the crank sensor, distributor, put in new spark plugs, s.p. wires & a new battery. The oil light & check engine light keep coming on & it feels like it wants to stall. Any advice or tips would be greatly appreciated

Get the OBD codes read as will point to the sensor/switch/circuit causing the issue, also use a fuel addative get one that covers the cat convertor as well as the valves , injectors etc ,take for a longish drive at a highish speed to get the engine at a good operating temp

There may be a ground wire that you forgot to put back or a power wire that give power to the coils. Re-check all electrical wiring and make sure they are all connected. Good luck and thanks for using FIX YA

SOURCE: 1996 Dodge Stratus stalls when starting

I had this problem with my 99 Durango and went to AutoBeef.com to discover this was a major problem with 98 & 99 Durangos. The fix was easy -- PCM "brain" was exchanged with a refurbished PCM "brain" from an online PCM company in Florida. You can google as I can't remember name of company. I called them and they said - Yep this is the fix -- the guys told me 3 screws all I had gone to several mechanics and dealers -- none could figure it out. I was so grateful that someone gave me the clue I needed.

oil is non conductive so I doubt that's the problem, but the oil leak should be fixed to reduce problems down the road.
as for the misfire could be a couple things, fouled plug(s), a plug wire(s) that has cracks, or even valves that are not seating which i doubt from your explanation.
I would change your plugs and wires first, and fix oil leak. if this does not fix the issue there are other things going on.

SOURCE: No Bus message when trying to start 2000 dodge stratus

The bus system is the high speed info network the computers use to exchange data. changing plugs and things wont help. you need to get dodge or a good mechanic to diagnose your fault with a scan tool

Torque spec for valve cover

TORQUE ON VALVE COVERS ARE NOT THAT MUCH. GO ONLINE FOR RESEARCH. IF YOU WANT A GENERAL ANSWER, TIGHTEN TO SEAT CAP OVER GASKET, THEN NO MORE THAN ANOTHER QUARTER TURN ON EACH BOLT. DO NOT "CRANK" IT DOWN AS YOU WILL SPLAY THE GASKET AND CAUSE OIL LEAKS.

99 dodge stratus dies while driving

Were the plugs covered in oil? With the plugs that go through the valve cover you might need new seals. Did you replace the plug wires? You need to scan it for codes. It's most likely a missfire, but it could be a bad speed sensor (also called, VSS vehicle speed sensor, cam position sensor,or crank position sensor).

I have a 02 dodge stratus and just had the valve cover gaskets replaced and at my oil change they said they see oil leak further back on motor- maybe oil sending unit or headgasket? any ideas on what I...

usually with oil leaks, you start at the top and work down. If you know the valve covers are leaking, you start there, and see what happens. They may not have been able to clean all the old oil off if this was your first oil change after the service. If it is a 2.4l, you do most likely have a leaking head gasket as they are prone to do that about every 60-70K.
