Audi 2002 a4 v6 2.4l when the car first starts the RPMs surge up and down unsteadily this stops if you give a few revs on the accelerator pedal. When driving around 50kph the rpms surge slightly it feels like a gentle tug. On several occasions it's lost power and the gear selector lights have flashed but placing it in Park and restarting the engine has always worked these problems may be unrelated.

You have two problems. The surging is from a dirty throttle body and /or air filter. The selector light could be from a bad selector switch or internal transmission problems. Have the car scanned for codes.

Likely a faulty diverter valve. If you have some decent mileage on the car the DV may be failing. It's a flimsy design with a plastic internal diaphragm. They're not terribly expensive (you can buy them at www.ecstuning.com or www.purems.com).

That being said, I'd still look around the turbo and intake systems for a loose, cracked, or disconnected vacuum hose - a vacuum leak should trip a check light but it may not always do so. Look for that, and if nothing is apparent, then I'd look at changing the DV.

SOURCE: No power, won't rev above 3500rpms

Transmission fluid level should not have anything to do with engine rpm's. it sounds more like a sensor, maybe a map, tps or even possibly a egr malfunction

I had the exact same problem on my 04 GC. I put some Techron Concentrate Plus Fuel System Cleaner in from Wal-Mart and it seemed to fix the problems right away. Let me know.

Ignition coils has to be the answer. if it was the fuel pump your car wouldnt start. So i would say contact audi. they should have sent you a letter in the mail. We have the same car and i got a letter from them. ignition coils are the recall for the 02 a4.

It seems like you need to have your car's TCM scanned .The flashing lights always mean a TCM going bad.You can get a rebuilt one for around $300-$400 www.programainc.com/ in Boca Raton Fl.If you live in South Florida Call German Car Depot 954-921-1515 we can scan and install a new one if needed. I have a 2001 Audi Avant that that surges, especially when stopped at a light. It threatens to stall unless I rev the rpms. Could this be related to oxygen sensors?

normally o2sensors will not cause this type of run problem surging can be caused by vacume leak or idle control valve

Your audi is fitted with a fuzzy logic gearbox, it will change according to your driving style.TRY THIS,put into 1st and without touching gas pedal, let the car accelerate to top gear, stop Then using onle 1/3rd gas pedal do it again.then using 2/3rds do it again.then only using the minimum pedal req accelerate to max legal limit.(try not to use brake pedal, let the car slow down itself, until you have to)then drive as normal, it will feel like a different car.

My 1999 Audi A4 has a hard time accerlating on inclines. The tach is moving at a high rpm but the car is not accelerating like it shoul.

Hi, if this is a auto built before 2004, audi used a 5 plate clutch which is renowned for going wrong , check fluid level in transmission first. good luck.

A3 power surges

run the fault codes
could be a transmission actuator problem as it senses vacuum changes when moving the accelerator and tries to change ratios ( 2000 to 2500 rpm indicates a ratio change which is the speed increase momentarily until the Transmission range sensor puts it back in the correct ratio for the road speed
check the wiring to the transmission
it is a sensor problem not a transmission failing

Car has started cutting power dead ,but not auctaully stalling. intermitantly ,worse under heavy acceleration and kick down.

I had the same problem with my Audi A4 1.8T 2001/2 Model, I had it checked by a dealer and the diagnostics revealed a SPEED SENSOR had to be replaced. Now under heavy acceleration, it rocks.
