Where the A/C hoses go into the fire wall , are there hot , cold ? Low on refrigerant . Not blowing cold air , is there air blowing out of the center vents ?

You need a manual for this. There are a lot of screws and bolts to remove and replace. Leaving them out will result in a squeaky dash.

I have a 99 olds intrigue 3.8l Autozone computer states poor electrical connection or short circuit, or failed vehicle spped sensor or drive gear mechanical fault. speedometer works sometimes and drives great next time it raises rpm and speedometer does not work. sounds like the dip switch needs replacing or the high beam filiments are blown on your globes

The wire mesh or screen side should be facing up. The screen is there as a reinforcement to stop the filter material from bowing-in from air pressure and debris when the car is moving.
