My 2008 Prius is not charging the battery when the car isn't moving.If I stuck in traffic the battery run flat. I took the car to the Toyota's main dealership. To solve this problem they've replaced the throttle body and the 12v battery after this expensive repair the car still giving the same problem as before. Is it time to say goodby to my car? Any suggestions?
The Gen II Prius (2004-2009) uses a separate inverter-powered charger located in the right rear corner of the car to keep the 12 volt battery charged. It's possible that either this module is bad or that one of the 3 contactors connecting it to the main traction battery has failed. I'd suggest going back to Toyota and point out to them where the problem lies rather than letting them guess or ask the computer for help.
Hook a voltmeter at iddle should be at least 13.5 v if the condition of your belt is ok tension wise and the idle about 800 rpm replace the alternator your voltage regulator went bad

The light that looks like a car with an exclamation mark in the middle of it is the HYBRID WARNING light (see diagram below) You must scn the onboard computer network to determine why this light is coming on. You also need to scan your computer system to find out why the engine keeps dying. If the hybrid batteries are discharged, they must be properly recharged to prevent serious damage.
CAUTION: Read ALL service and warning lables in the engine compartment before attempting ANY type of service on a hybrid vehicle. The wiring harnesses that have ORANGE connectors are HIGH VOLTAGE connectors and can cause serious injury or death.
DO NOT touch any wiring harness or component that has a HIGH VOLTAGE warning label on it.
My recommendation is to tow the vehicle to a qualified hybrid repair center (preferably the dealer) and get it properly diagnosed and repaired. The high-tech, high voltage systems in this vehicle is nothing for anyone but a trained, certified technician to be messing with.
