OK, you want to know if the 2004 Galant is an interference engine, because of a broken timing belt. Your car has the 2.4L engine, and its not quite an interference engine, but its very close. A broken belt MIGHT not have damaged valves when the belt failed. Your garage should be able to look at the valve gear and see if any valves are jammed. It's also possible to look in each cylinder with an endoscope camera for any valve damage. A new belt can be fitted, and the engine turned over to test compression. If there are problems spotted, then the head has to come off and the the damaged valves replaced.

SOURCE: replacing front rotors on 2004 mitsubishi galant

Sandy, I can only assume that you have fixed whatever issue you were having by now since this post is about 4 months old but, I'd like to give an answer anyway. In order to remove the rotors you obviously have to remove the wheel first. Next you have to remove the brake caliper. To do that you usually need to slightly compress the caliper by squeezing it with a large C-clamp. After it's loose, remove the two hex head bolts, one upper and one lower, that hold the caliper in place. At this point there might be a small ring clip or two around one or two of the lug nut studs that need to be removed. A chisel, heavy wire cutters, or needle nose pliers work well to remove the ring clips. If the rotor doesn't just fall off in your hand, give it a little love tap with a hammer to loosen it and you should be all set. Please let us know how it goes. Thanks.

SOURCE: timing belt broke -2000 ford focus zx3

Hello mawbea: My name is Roger I will answer your question. You did not say which engine is in your car. So if you have a 2.0 SOHC engine. If the belt broke you should be Ok. If you have the 2.0 DOHC engine. The likely hood of bending the valves are just about a guarantee. How ever with any engine using a timing belt it is possible to bend a valve.Should you need more help please just ask.
Please rate the quality of your answer as this way we know you received helpful information.Thank You for using Fix Ya, Roger

SOURCE: mitsubishi galant 2004 key stuck in ignition

1st Remove Battery cable from Battery because the only time the air bags will deploy is when the key is in the ignition. I have tilt steering and when I put the steering wheel in the up most position. I came right out. But now it seems to stick more lately.

I put in a new timing belt but when i start engine there is no sprocket do you know what causes it?

have the OBD codes read you may have left a lead off somewhere the code reader should point you in the right direction , dont want to alarm you but if the timing belt breaks whilst engine running it will almost certainly cause some sort of damage so might not be as simple as no spark

Does 2001 Mitsubishi Galant have and overheating failsafe

Sorry to say the 4 cyl is an interference engine and I think the V6 is too. So odds are the valves are bent if the belt broke while the engine was running.

The timing belt on my 2003 galant broke. A shop is saying they can replace the head while another shop said I need a new engine. Do I definitely need a new engine? Can I get away w/ just fixing the heads?...

4 or 6 cylinder? you say "heads" so I assume its a V6? A interference engine does NOT require a new engine. unless upon disassembly there is severe piston damage. A 2003 Galant isn't going to be worth putting in a $ 2500-3000 new engine. A car that has had scheduled service usually doesn't break the belt, its replaced long before that happens. Yes, you can take the heads off and get it serviced, new valves etc. On a V6 you also want to replace the water pump.

2003 Galant 4cyl .. After not knowing Car timing belt was what broke ..Car was attempted to turn on various times... How will I know if I have to re-built the engine ?

The Galant has an interference engine, when the timing belt breaks the valves stop and the pistons strike them. At the least you need a new head. There is really no way to tell how much damage was done without tearing the engine apart.

2002 Mitsubishi Galant - When I should change the Timing belt ?

Timing belts should be changed at around 60,000 miles on engines with timing belts-especially on 'interference engines', which are engines that, when the belt breaks while the engine is running, will at least damage the valves and sometimes even pistons. You do not say what engine or model car your Mitsubishi engine is, but most Mitsubishi engines are interference engines. Better safe than sorry.

When to change timing belt on 2003 mitsubishi galant

Most timing belt suppliers recommend 50k to 60k miles for replacement. Your Galant has a interference engine meaning that if the belt fails your will incur major engine damage up to and including replacement of the entire engine.

So if you have over 60k miles on the car go ahead and change the belt, and while you have it apart replace the water pump.

When to change timing belt in 2006 galant

Timing Belt Replace ment Intervals for 2006 Mitsubishi Galant are as follows:

2.4L 4Cylinder engine: Every 60,000 miles

3.8L V-6 Engine: Every 60,000 miles

Both of these engines are "Interference Engines" which means that if the timing belt breaks, severe engine damage is likely to result.

I personally recommend replacement of the timing belt idler and tensioner pullies as well as the water pump because failure of these components will cause a failure of the timing belt.

1998 GALANT W/ 130,000 MI. TIME TO CHANGE THE

Should be on your 2nd timing belt. If you have the 4cyl engine there is a balance belt that needs to be changed also. Mitsubishi recomends replacement at every 60,000 miles, your 10k over. Most of the time these motors are not interferance engines, But I have seen a few that broke a belt at high rpm that did bent valves......
