  1. Negative battery cable.
  2. Drain and recover the coolant.
  1. Oxygen sensor connector.
  2. Upper and lower exhaust manifold heat shields.
  3. Exhaust manifold brace to manifold bolt.
  4. Break loose the manifold to exhaust pipe spring loaded nuts.
    1. Radiator outlet pipe assembly to coolant pump cover bolts (2).
    2. Raise vehicle.
    3. Exhaust pipe from exhaust manifold.
    4. Pull down and back on the exhaust pipe to disengage it from the exhaust manifold bolts.
    5. Radiator outlet pipe from oil pan and transaxle.
      • Leave the lower radiator hose attached and pull down on the radiator outlet pipe to disengage it from the coolant pump. Leave the radiator outlet pipe hang.
    1. Lower vehicle.
    2. Exhaust manifold to cylinder head retaining nuts.
    3. Exhaust manifold, seals and gaskets.
    4. Coolant pump cover to cylinder block bolts.
    5. Coolant pump assembly to timing chain housing nuts (3).
    6. Coolant pump and cover assembly.
    7. Coolant pump cover to coolant pump assembly bolts (5).
INSTALL OR CONNECT

NOTE: Prior to installing coolant pump read the entire procedure. Pay special attention to the tightening sequence to avoid part damage and to insure proper sealing.

  1. Coolant pump cover to coolant pump assembly and install bolts hand tight.
  2. Lubricate splines of coolant pump drive with Chassis Grease GM P/N 1051344 or equivalent and install pump and cover assembly.
  3. Cover to block bolts hand tight.
  4. Pump to chain housing nuts hand tight.
  5. Lube "0" ring on radiator outlet pipe with an anti-freeze solution and slide pipe into coolant pump cover install bolts hand tight.
  6. With all gaps closed, torque in sequence as follows:
    1. Pump assembly to chain housing nuts and torque to 26 Nm (19 lbs. in.)
    2. Pump cover to pump assembly and torque 14 Nm (124 lbs. in.) .
    3. Cover to block, bottom bolt first and torque to 26 Nm (19 lbs. in.) .
    4. Radiator outlet pipe assembly to cover and torque to 14 Nm ( 124 lbs. in.)
  1. Exhaust manifold and new gaskets. Refer to Exhaust Manifold. See: Exhaust System\Exhaust Manifold
  2. Exhaust manifold to cylinder head retaining nuts. Follow the tightening sequence and tighten to 42 Nm (31 lbs ft) .
  3. Raise vehicle.
  4. Index exhaust manifold bolts into exhaust pipe flange.
  5. Exhaust pipe to exhaust manifold. Tighten the manifold to exhaust pipe nuts to 26 Nm (19 lbs. ft.) .
  6. Turn both bolts in evenly to avoid cocking the exhaust pipe and binding the bolts. Turn bolts in until fully seated.
  7. Radiator outlet pipe to transaxle and oil pan.
  8. Lower vehicle.
  9. Exhaust manifold brace to manifold bolt and torque to 54 Nm (40 lbs. ft.) .
  10. Tighten the manifold to exhaust pipe nuts to 26 Nm (19 lbs. ft.) .
  11. Upper and lower heat shields.
  12. Oxygen sensor connector.
  13. Fill radiator with coolant until coolant reaches heater hose coolant outlet then install hose (this assists with complete cylinder block fill) then continue fill.
  14. Negative battery cable.

SOURCE: replace rearbrakes on '93 olds achieva ,step by

Visit the autozone.com website and register the car. It doesn't cost anything and you will have access to an online repair manual for the car. The steps for replacing the rear brakes should be available there. It's a pretty handy resource for making repairs to your car. Hope this helped and best wishes.

SOURCE: amount of time expected to do a head gasket, water

I'd expect to pay anywhere from 8-12 hours of labor. A head gasket is a tremendously time-consuming job and takes a lot of work. You'll also be paying for other parts (intake and exhaust manifold gaskets have to be replaced, new coolant, new oil since both are drained before the job starts), and if you're doing a water pump, bite the bullet and do the timing belt, timing belt tensioner, accessory belt(s), and thermostat as well - those are normally done with the water pump and there's no sense in paying the labor twice.

SOURCE: where is the water pump

Pump is driven by the timing chain, under the front cover, not an easy one.
Some engines the pump is a splined shaft that slides into a gear, that one is pretty easy,3 bolts from the back side. Others have the gear built on to the pump, for those the cover has to come off, timing chain has to come off.No fun.
Would suggest looking at the new pump for your manufacture date and see if it has a gear or a splined shaft.

Cost to replace valves on the 1993 olds achieva 4 cyl engine

If you take the head off and take it to an automotive machine shop for the valve work, pressure testing, inspection, and cleaning (by hot tank), you are looking at about 200-300 dollars, depending on locale and shop prices. Then you could buy the gasket set for about $75 and put it all back together. Know what you are doing and buy a repair manual to follow procedures. If it is a timing belt and not a timing chain, go with a new belt-not very expensive, under $25- and good insurance to also put in a new water pump.

If you have a shop do all the work, it will get expensive fast. Most head jobs cost a minimum of about $750. And most shops will send the head to a machine shop for that work involved, so add that to the cost.

LOCATION OF AIR CONDITION COMPRESSOR IN 97 OLDS ACHIEVA

The compressor is located on the engine with a belt driving it, It is usually down the bottom where you can't get to it, most of them are removed from underneath. You have 3 or 4 things that are belt driven, in case you don't know which is which, the power steering pump, the alternator, and the ac compressor, and sometimes you will find an air pump, or a water pump. The ac compressor is easily identified by the 2 big aluminum pipes going into it. Hope this helps.
