In some of the older model cars the OBD was powered by the cigarette lighter fuse lead, Check this first. If that does' not work check your reader in a comparable vehicle and check to see if your reader is a Type 1 plug or Type 2. And if all else fails go to any Advance Auto parts and they will check it for you to see if your plug is reading!

SOURCE: 1996 Honda Accord Rough Idle Even After tune up

Perform a valve clearance inspection and adjust if necessary. Tight or sticking valves will cause a misfire or rough running concern. Note: Perform valve adjustment when the engine is stone cold. 4cyl: INT 0.26mm EXH: 0.30mm (V6 engine are hydraulic and no adjust necessary.) Also check for a sticking or stuck open EGR valve. For diagnostic purposes only: Remove the EGR valve. Place a business card over the EGR passage and bolt the EGR valve back on. This plugs the EGR ports and if the misfire goes away the EGR valve is partially stuck open and is defective.
Check for low fuel pressure. Check for low compression. Check cam timing. Check for a weak ignition coil. Also don't over look the possibility of worn or broken engine mounts which cause excessive engine movement and engine vibration. -hope this helps

Honda accord 96 cuts off when comes to a stop and will not start with engine light on

i'd have the obd codes read this will point to the switch etc that is causing the issue ,it may well be the throttle position sensor but i'd also guess at the camshaft sensor or the crankshaft sensor , with the codes you should narrow down the problem cause

Where do you plug a scanner to diagnose a problem in a 1996 Honda Accord

The obd 2 port in my '96 Honda accord ex is behind the ash tray, you have to take out the ash tray to get to it. Hope this helps! :)

96 ACCORD AUTOMATIC ROUGH IDEL AFTER WARMUP AND WHEN STOPPING

You should be seeing a check engine light on in your dash. Have someone with a OBD II reader plug in and pull any codes.
I would suspect the rough idle may have to do with many things, vehicle needs tune-up, spark plugs , wires, ect. The fuel filter need to be replaced.
These are just a few of the more simple possible remedy's.
Please let me know what you find

I have a 1996 Honda Accord that ran hot, plug wire tips melted

it is really not good to run that hot, metal temper fails...

your description sounds like you will need to replace the wires, do it one at a time and that is the easiest way to not mix anything up..

After you get it going, measure how many quarts of oil you burn in how many miles, you may have killed the engine..

Trouble throttling positioning sensor on 1996 honda accord

Use and OBD II scan device to read the value to the throttle position when the throttle is closed, engine off, key on. The value may be between zero and 10 percent, check a like vehicle with the scanner for the exact setting. A call to your Honda service department may give you a quick answer.
