Your car has disc brakes on the front. If the rear brakes look similar, you have rear discs. If not, they are drum brakes. I can not give a better answer, because the Tauras has 4 different engine options and you did not list that info with your question. What is the 8th digit of your VIN code? That tells which engine option you have.

Hi Lydell, all station wagons & models w/ ABS have 4 wheel disc brakes;Standard sedans have front disc, rear drum. If your 'mechanic' can't tell by a quick look under your car,RUN don't walk to a qualified shop.! Best of luck.

SOURCE: 2006 Ford Five Hundred anti-lock brake pad replacement

hi its rare the pads stick to the rotor but obviously this one was welded metal to metal so if the other sides not down to the metal you won,t have the same problem now getting the piston back into the caliper if you don,t have the tool its going to be fiddling but you need to get some pressure on the piston as to shove it back in not to much as you have stated it has to be screwed back in once a pressure has been applied [could try using you c-clamp ] then the slots in the piston insert something that will turn the piston it will locate and start to screw back your going to need pateince as it is fiddling with the correct tool you may need a few attemps but the other side should not be as bad as the piston has not gone past the point of return take your time and check for leaks when you have them all assembled yates210456

SOURCE: Ford Expedition rear brake brake replacement

The rear pads are usualy harder than the front and the harder the pads the more wear there is on the rotors Unless the rotors were worn to the point of replacement they could have had them skimmed.Being soft doesnt make much sense.Have an 03 ba falcon and only replaced our rotors after doing 125000ks The expidition is a similar beast that used the same brake system.Get the rotors skimmed and go to a slightly softer pad to extend rotor life

SOURCE: how do I replace brake pads on 2003 ford focus?

if you have rear disc brakes all you have to do is take the two bolts off and lift the caliper off and pull the pads out but now if you have drums there is a rubber boot behind the whole drum assembly take it out use a screw driver or a brake tool to back off the tension of the shoes

Cannot figure out if my daughters 1996 MX6LS/MEdition has disc brakes or ABS breaks. How can I tell Thanks

Disc brakes and ABS are two totally different things. ABS is a computer system that keeps the brakes from locking up on you. Disc brakes are a type of brake system. The front are disc brakes and the rears are either disc or drum brakes.

2001 Focus zx3 rear brakes- pads or drums???

If they look like a smaller version of your front brakes where you can see the disc (should be shiny on the side of the disc where the pad touches the rotor) then you have disk brakes.

If it's all black, or all kinda of rusted looking and all you see is a "cap" over everything behind the rim, then it'll be a drum...

95% of the zx3's have drums
only 5% of zx3's had discs. The ones that have disc brakes, also came with traction control as part of the package.
