Where do you find the heater blower motor "resistor" on a 1996 Sonoma 4 cyl. automatic, 2 wheel drive pickup
SOURCE: Blower Motor Resistor for front AC/Heater
remove glove box....its in the casing near motor.....2 screws and 1 connector
SOURCE: Blower motor or resistor?
Yes its the blower motor resistor.
More then likley theres some trash or something in it, or possibly the motor itself is on it's way out. There not that bad to pull out of that body car, just pull it out and see what you can see.
The blower motor is under the glove compartment
You can replace the resistor on your own. Please find a detailed diagram which would guide you to do it.

2-Wheel Drive - 2.2L Engine
To install:
Negative battery cable
Front exhaust pipe, if necessary for access
Starter heat shield, if equipped
Brace rod from the front of the engine and the bell housing
Drivers side wheel to access the starter motor wires and the
starter motor attaching bracket-to-engine bolt through the opening in
the wheel well
Wires from the starter solenoid
Attaching bracket-to-engine mount bolt
Starter-to-engine block bolts. When removing the last bolt, be
sure to support the starter to keep it from falling and possibly

Hope helped with this (remember rated this help) Good luck.

Hi!
To find out if your problem is the blower motor or the blower resistor or switch perform the following tests.
BLOWER RESISTOR
BLOWER SPEED CONTROL SWITCH
Switch Position (1) Continuity Between Terminal No.
(1) With switch in any position, continuity should exist between terminals No. 3 and 4 for heater control illumination. With switch in OFF position, continuity should not exist between any other terminals.
(2) Circle (D) closest to LO position.
(3) Circle (D) closest to HI position.

Heater Relay is located on the Relay Block, Front Right Side Of Engine Compartment
Good luck!! A HELPFUL - 4 THUMBS - rating for this solution would be greatly appreciated. Thank you for using FixYa.
HEATER BLOWER MOTOR
Its
faulty blower motor resistor. The low and medium speed on blower motor is
controlled by resistor and its actual speed is high. So because resistor is not
working, blower motors actual speed which is high is working.
It
can be faulty blower motor or faulty blower motor resistor. Get the blower
motor inspected. If it's faulty it has to be replaced.
