Could be the timing chain. Was it a pop or more like a ping . A ping could indicate a timing chain problem. The tensioner might have gone bad.
its not hard to replace for an experienced mechanic

Rough idle and power loss. i recently took it to a local mechanic and the diagnostics check came up all clear. i have noticed that the air box has been ''repaired'' with silver tape. could this be the...

rough idle loss of power is usually related to needing a tunup or clogged fuel injectors. You could try having a shop do an injection service or go to autozone or chevron and get some techron fuel system treatment and add 1 bottle to half a tank, then add 1 bottle to a full tank and hope for the best.. I doubt its a timing chain problem. If it were a timing chainn problem the problem would would most likely of happened all of a sudden. A bad tank of gas could of also cause this. Also the 02 sensor should be changed at around 70,000 miles or so, especially if your getting bad fuel milage. This wont fix the rough idle if the injectors are clogged.

Engine Light Flashing, car sounds rough, idle is up and down

It sounds like maybe a blown head gasket causing coolant to leak into the combustion chambers. If you have a mechanic friend, Better offer him a meal or something to get him/her to have a go at it. Taking it to a shop won't be cheap.

Knocking

the knocking is probably the connecting rod that is between the piston and the crankshaft....the pop you heard was it breaking. this is major engine repair and needs to be looked at by profesionals.

2002 chevy malibu-rough idle

where are you taking the car for repairs? try meineke sorry about the spelling, i had gone in there to check to see what the deal was with my car without even having it there the guy told me the issue, so since i was stuck at or close to another shope i got my parts from advance auto and had the other shop put them on. but with your acceleration and everything it sounds like some sort of sensor or a leak some where. pop yur hood while it is rinning and take a water spray bottle and spray around the the headers and stuff. and if you smell to much exhaust coming from the front end could be a smalll issue.

1990 gmc k2500 new 5.7engine & turbo 400 ,power lose & noise.

sounds as if you may be looking in the wrong spot. If different gearing is drastically changing the symptoms you may want to check the trans. or torque converter. sudden pop with engine rpm increase and lack of power sounds like possible band breakage in transmission or impellor breakage in torque converter.

Cylinder 4 misfire: lacks compression

the things that would cause lack of compression are:
  • bad headgasket
  • damaged piston rings
  • valves not sealing- could be exessive carbon build up, bad valve spring, bent valve
