I installed a transmission from a 2003 F150 4.2 into my 2004 F150 heritage 4.2. The trans pulls great but will not shift and although I know I'm going much faster my speedometer only shows up to 15mpg. Of course I can shift from D to 2 to shift....and it will stay in 2nd if I'm going fast enough. I've changed every shift silinoids and speed sensor? ???? Help!!!

If your truck still has a shift cable running from the trans to the carb it has a button on it you push it in and while holding the button in you open the throttle wide open that will set the shift mechanism in the trans

If the trans is different from the one you pulled out, you're going to have to take your truck to the dealer to have your ECM flashed for the transmission.
If you don't think this is the problem, then more than likely you're not shifting out of second because you're wiring is broke somewhere and NOT communicating from the trans to the ECM / ECU/ PCM, whatever lingo you use.

SOURCE: the transmission wont shift out of 2nd gear again.

i can answer part of your question. the front wheel speed sensors are for abs and trac control only. these will not affect the speedo your problem is some where else. sorry i have not had this prob yet good luck. you could have to replace the rear wheel speed sensor again. they are not that good. and after market are even worse.

SOURCE: 1998 honda accord speedometer wrong

I I recently went to a government speed awareness workshop (naughty boy!) and asked why all the cars I have recently driven (Vaux Zafira, Vectra, Astra, Honda Accord, Peugeot 106) were indicating a higher speed than my sat-nav. The answer they gave was that car manufacturers will always do this to err on the side of caution for boot-heavy drivers or drivers who neglect to check tyre pressures, so that in a court case they have one less thing to worry about. All these cars indicated about 5-10% over.

The trani is electronically controlled. without a diagnostic computer you are not going to know. It may be the speed sensors (for the trani.) but thats a guess. how long since the last trani service. Fluid level and condition can affect its perfomance. Good luck.

2003 mercury mountaineer transmission does'nt like to shift from second to third. what would cause this

No such thing as a seal transmission

Any slipping & slamming & you using it
like that, you may as well pull it & rebuild it

Trans & Power Steering fluids you change every 3 years
on all vehicles or get out your check book for the repairs,
due to lack of knowledge & abuse

None of what you said was fact based or true

2002 Kia Optima runs great, transmission has started acting irradcally. it will shift and pull in gear for a short time after starting, but after a few minutes it fails to move the car. I've changed...

Keep driving it like that & it won't work at all

When ever you even think you have a transmission
issue, you immediately stop using the vehicle or you
end up rebuilding the trans, your call, your money & lots of it

Ask yourself ---Why would changing the fluid do anything?

Old oil out / New oil in ?

You change trans fluid because it breaks down from the heat
That is it's job,to remove heat or your trans fails

Trans & Power Steering get changed every 3 years & not
over 30,000 miles ever on ALL Vehicles

I want to know how to replace the transmission filter on a 2000 chevrolet venture

Remove the transmission pan, after pan is removed, the filter will be clearly visible. Pull straight down on the filter in a wiggleing fashion, it will pop right out of the transmission. Install new filter, clean out trans pan and magnet inside pan. Install trans pan and add approx. 2.5 qts. of new trans fluid. Start vehicle and let it get to operating temperature. Shift through all gears and re-check fluid level in trans. Add fluid as needed.

SLUGGISH TRANSMISSION

Discribe sluggish. Changing the fluid has nothing to do with shift stratagy or correct trans operation. Change the filter every time you do the fluid, unless your just pulling the plug every year or so,to change some fluid.
These vehicles have a tendency to have a bad Trans Solenoid Pack. If it bangs into reverse or shifts funny around 35 to 40 on a slight hill, that part may be going bad.
You need a proper working EGR Valve and TPS (Throttle Position Sensor) also.
Don't forget to flush the Power Steering Fluid--although unrelated to the trans.

Trans--Mercon V Fluid
Steering--Mercon (Not V)

2003 BUICK REGAL TRANSMISSION PROBLEM.

This is a common problem on some GM cars. There is a pressure control valve in the side cover of the transmission that needs to be replaced. The transmission does not have to be rebuilt. You will need to get a side cover gasket also.
