Where is the leak??? The heater core could be plugged. If the coolant level is low you will have no heat.

SOURCE: 99 cadillac deville engine overheating an loosing

Check to see if you have flow through the entire radiator. If part of the radiator core is cool to the touch when the engine is at operating temp, this indicates restricted radiator flow. If the entire radiator core is not allowing water to flow through, cooling will not be at all efficient. Also a good idea would be to purchase a block tester. available at napa and other reputable parts houses for around thirty dollars. You remove a small amount of coolant, and put the tool in the radiator, or pressure tank opening. If there are any combustable gasses present, i'e' exhaust, this would indicate a head gasket breech, (or maybe worse) and would indicate that it's time to stop looking for a simple problems, and get proffessional help. Good luck to you!

Acura '99 TL with a heating problem. New

Is this a heater problem or an engine overheating problem?? If it is an engine overheating problem do you have white smoke out the exhaust which would indicate a head gasket leak into the combustion chamber. You could also have compression gases leaking intro the cooling system. Is the thermostat the correct one and if so is it installed correctly with the sensor/wax pellet part towards the engine and it there is a pilot/bleed hole is it facing up. You could also have an ignition timing problem or have a lean running engine and/or a plugged exhaust system

Hi. I do not get any heat from my 99 Acura TL. Fan and a/c working fine.

Check coolant level in coolant reservior. Also with the engine cold, remove the radiator cap and check coolant level. it should be full.
If you fluid levels are full have your mechanic check your heater control valve. It may need replacing.

My 99 alero v6 is over heating not leaking ight mite be hoses or thermostat . or head gasket but when it overb heats the smoke comes from the top of the engine

REPLACE THERMOSTAT AND RADIATOR PRESSURE CAP.IF CAR OVER HEATING WHILE IN MOTION.MORE LIKELY ITS THE THERMOSTAT,LOW COOLANT IN RADIATOR OR COOLANT SYSTEM,BAD WATER PUMP,WATER PUMP WEEP HOLE IS LEAKING, WATER PUMP NEEDS REPLACING.CHECK ENGINE OIL,IF OIL LOOKS LIKE MILK SHAKE YOU HAVE LEAKING HEAD GASKET.IF CAR IN PARK AND OVER HEATS WHILE IN A LONG TRAFFIC LINE OR.BANK DRIVE THROUGH COOLANT FAN NOT TURNING ON, BECAUSE THE ENGINE COOLANT TEMPERATURE SENSOR FAULTY.CODE SCAN CAR FOR FAULTY COOLANT FAN RELAY OR FAULTY PCM. CHECK COOLANT FAN FUSE, AND HOT WIRE THE COOLANT FAN TO MAKE SURE ITS WORKING.IF COOLANT FAN DONT WORK WHEN HOT WIRED. COOLANT FAN NEEDS REPLACING. REPLACE BOTH RADIATOR HOSES, REPLACE THERMOSTAT AND RADIATOR PRESSURE CAP.BUY NEW COOLANT ADD 50/50 WATER AND COOLANT.IF ENGINE OIL HAS ANTIFREEZE IN IT.REPLACE ENGINE OIL AND OIL FILTER TO KEEP FROM LOCKING UP THE ENGINE.GET CAR FIX.DONT KEEP DRIVING IF IT KEEP OVER HEATING,ENGINE DAMAGE WILL OCCUR.I HOPE INFORMATION I GAVE YOU WILL FIX PROBLEM.PROBLEM COULD BE LEAKING RADIATOR HOSES BUT CHANGE THERMOSTAT THATS FIRST THING I WOULD CHANGE BECAUSE IF IT CLOSED, ENGINE WILL OVER HEAT AND CRACK CYLINDER HEAD OR CRACK PISTON, COOLANT NEED TO CIRCULATE THROUGH THE ENGINE TO TAKE AWAY THE HEAT FROM ENGINE.

My MR2 is getting a lot of pressure built up in the cooling system. It pushes the overflow tank's water out through the overflow hose. i replaced the thermostat and i keep adding water into the radiator...

Hi,
I just was reading this and had a few thoughts for you:

1. Is it possible the thermostat is installed backwards? That's an easy fix.
2. Is the radiator fan working?
3. If the pumping action from the water pump seems normal yet the engine still wants to heat up, it's possible that the radiator is clogged-up.
4. Worst case... If with the radiator cap off, the coolant literally blows out of the opening... and the engine has really heated up recently... you may have a blown head gasket. If you suspect this, have the oil drained for inspection of coolant in the oil and don't run the engine anymore. A major fix would be required.

Hope some of this helps you. Good luck!

Even after replacing the radiator, thermostat and

The problem with overheat is due to poor coolant circulating. The main culprit is the Radiator. When the radiator is clogging up, coolant can't be circulating. The stagnant coolant inside the engine water jacket keeps absorb heat from combustion chambers having no way to dissipate the heat then the engine is overheated. You can test the water pump by removing the thermostat, then hooking everything back. Open the radiator cap, then turn on the engine to see if water flowing down to several small tubes inside the radiator. If water can't go down fast enough to cause over flow at radiator opening then your 90 Legend Radiator already got clogged up. Replace with a new radiator, not even a rebuilt one. Good luck.
