How do I replace the ignition module on a 1989 Oldsmobile Cutlass?

How do I replace the ignition module on a 1989 Oldsmobile Cutlass? Where is it located on the engine? The engine started but would not continue to run. No sputtering or any other sign it is going to cut off. Does the ignition module have a fuse?

SOURCE: 1996 Oldsmobile Cutlass Ciera car runs then idles low and sounds like engine is dying

check the convertor for clogging. you can also do a back pressure test on the convertor to determine if it is bad.

Are you getting power to the ignition module? It could be your ignition switch. I once had a 1993 Buick that would die intermittently with no rhyme or reason. Turned out to be the ignition switch. And my daughter has a 1995 Camaro that when you would start it...sometimes it would be a 2 cylinder, sometimes a 4 cylinder, and other times a 6. Still not sure how that one worked, but it was the ignition switch that is located on top of the steering column down by the firewall.

Where i the ignition module located ?

The ignition module is located under the coil packs on the v-6 engine.
That is where the spark plug wires go to the spark plugs . When you remove the coil packs ,the flat peice is themodule. When you remove the module , the crankshaft sensor is sometimes located there ,and that also should be changed

My Oldsmobile Cutlass Ciera with the 2.5 will not stay running

What you should do when it stalls is check to see if your loosing spark at the plugs. If you are then you probably have a bad ignition module. It is located in the rear of the motor. The ignition coils are mounted on it.One other possibility is the pcm.It is located under the dash on the passengers side. You can get a used one at most salvage yards. You will need to get the number from the old pcm.You will also have to remove the old prom from the old pcm and install it in the one you get for replacement.Hope this helps.Good luck.

2.8 engine Would start when cool, but stall after

89 cierra? It should be DIS ignition so you can't have the timing too high. You said it has fuel and spark. Fuel pressure and injection pulse. Does it try to start if you spray carb cleaner into it?

94 Old Cutlass Ciero 3.1 engine starts and dies won't stay running

Replace the oil pressure switch next to the oil filter. When you turn on the ignition the fuel pump runs to prime the system then turns off. Then the oil pressure switch runs the fuel pump to keep the engine running. To test, connect the fuel pump test wire(located at the left front wheel well) to the battery. This will bypass the pressure switch and the engine should run.
