Here is the steps for the removal and replacement...getting you the picture and location next. 6.6L Engine

  1. Disconnect the negative battery cables.
  2. Drain the fuel from the fuel filter as follows:
    • Install a hose on the water drain on the water-in-fuel sensor.
    • Place the other end of the hose into an approved container.
    • Drain as much fuel as possible from the fuel filter housing.
    • Tighten the water drain on the water-in-fuel sensor.
  3. Remove or disconnect the following:
    • Water-in-fuel sensor harness connector
    • Fuel filter from the fuel filter/heater element housing
    • Water-in-fuel sensor from the fuel filter

To install:
  1. Install or connect the following:
    • Water-in-fuel sensor in the fuel filter
NOTE Check the fuel filter/heater element housing and the filter for a dislocated filter seal or foreign debris. Contamination on the filter/heater housing may cause leakage at the fuel filter. Coat the seal with clean engine oil.

    • Fuel filter on the fuel filter/heater element housing
    • Water-in-fuel harness connector
    • Negative battery cables
  2. Prime the fuel system:
    • Pump the primer located on top of the fuel filter 30 times or until stiff.
    • Try to start and run the engine. If the engine does not start, repeat the previous step.
    • Allow the engine to run for 5 minutes at idle.
    • Check for fuel leaks and clear all Diagnostic Trouble Codes (DTCs).

Locatiuon of fuel filter on a 2004 silverado

I'm not sure on an 04', but my 01' Silverado has it mounted to the inner frame rail (under the truck) on the drivers side just behind the drivers door. The fuel line comes out of the tank, runs along the frame, goes into the filter, then continues on to the engine bay.

I have a 2004 Chevy Silverado. After I fill up the gas tank and start the truck the engine stalls unless I give it gas. After I drive the truck down the road it runs and starts fine.

You have sediment in your tank that gets losened and blocks your fuel line after you gas up. drain tank and clean and change both fuel filters and that should fix your problem

Just wanted to see if anyone could give me a complete list of supplies needed to tune up a 2004 chevy silverado 2500HD 8c 6L

that depends on the miles on the truck. spark plugs every 100,000 miles, other ignition parts inspect and replace as ness, fuel and air filter every 30,000 miles. all belts and hoses should be inspected as part of any service.

Where can i find fuel filter on 2004 silverado?

i own a 2004 chevy z71. general motors did not put an external fuel filter on these trucks in 2004. EPA was trying to get them to do things with as few connectons on the fuel system as possible so there wouldn't be as many places to leak!!!! the fuel filter is built into the fuel pump/sender unit. it is all one piece design you cant even see the filter whith the pump removed you have to change the complete pump assy. i recomend using an oem part from you chevy dealer. parts house pumps dont usually last that long. i work at a carquest and we get bad pumps back alot they dont usually last but about 3 months
