SOURCE: need to know the timing marks on 1992 toyota
you may find them online but if it were me i would go to local auto parts and spend the $24.95 on a haynes repair manual it has pictures of the marks and the tension specs etc worth the $$ , remove #12 spark plug and take a peice of wire stick it into the hole till it touchs the piston then rotate the crankshaft till its a top dead center then look down at the line up marks behind the crank gear they should line up then rotate the camshaft till marks line up should be 12 oclock on cam gear? this is sometimes tricky to get it lined up without it being 1 tooth off thats why picture is best ? hope this helps [email protected]

I can help you with this.You have to start all over again.There should be three chains all together. Two short ones and one long one.The two short ones are for the cams. We are going to start with those two first.The 90 degrees they are talking about the timing mark on the gears on the cams should be 90 degrees from the flat surface of the cylinder head.The easiest way to do is find the marks on the gears and then find the links on the chains that are different color line those up with the timing marks on the gears. There should be 12 links one color link to the other. Set those and put the tensioners on little tricky on those. When you are going to set the big chain the cams are going to move some don't worry about as long as those color links stay on the timing marks. They will move a little and it looks like they are off but they are not. Once you do that the long chain also has different color links also align those with the timing marks on the cam sprokets and crank gear.Install your tensioner for the long chain. You have to collapse the tensioner all the way in and install collapse. Once in with a screw driver pry in against the tensioner to realease it. If you fail to do this you will hear chain hitting the metal cover when you start it. Once you have this together you can turn the engine in the direction that it normally runs manually and it shouldbe free. Keep in mind that once you turn the engine you will never get those timing marks to align the way they were it still ok. Hopefully this will help. Special tools:
1. Crankshaft pulley holder - Tool No. 09213-70010/11.
2. Crankshaft pulley puller - Tool No. 09950-50012.
General precautions:
1. Disconnect battery earth lead.
2. Remove spark plugs to ease turning engine.
3. Turn engine in normal direction of rotation.
4. Observe tightening torques in pictures below.
5. Do NOT turn crankshaft via camshaft or other sprockets.
6. Do NOT turn crankshaft or camshaft with timing chain removed.
7. Mark position of crankshaft position (CKP) sensor before removal.
Valve timing procedures:
1. Ensure crankshaft pulley and timing chain cover TDC marks aligned [1].
2. Ensure teeth timing mark on each camshaft sprocket aligned.
3. 1ZZ-FE/3ZZ-FE/4ZZ-FE [2].
4. 2ZZ-GE [12] OR [13].
5. If not, turn crankshaft pulley 360 degrees.
6. Remove chain tensioner, tensioner rail and chain guide.
7. Check chain for wear.
