So I replaced the battery in my car about a month ago. This morning I came out to go to work and it was completely dead. There were no lights left on that I could find. I even checked the glove box light. The car was starting kind of hard recently too. I jump started it with another car and went to work. I shut it off when I got there and it started right up... several times throughout the day. Anyway, after doing a little research online I think I might have a parastic draw on my battery somewhere that is slowly draining it. This makes sense because yesterday was my day off and I didn't even start the car once. So it had all that time to slowly drain. I think it might have something to do with the fact that all my electric door locks quit working at the same time a while ago. I'm thinking there might be a bad ground. How do I check for this and fix it? I took out the fuse for the electric door locks. Will this keep it from draining? Do I have to unhook my battery every day when I get home? Please help.
Remove positive battery terminal from battery & put a 12 volt test light in line between cable & battery post. As long as 12 volt light is illuminated, you have a draw. Start pulling & re-installing fuses, one at a time,until you see it dim or go out. If it goes out, you found your draw. If it dims, slight draw, such as radio memory etc. if all else fails, make sure you know where they all go, then pull them all, and start putting back one at a time. When light comes on bright, you found the circuit causing the draw.
The easiest solution is to disconnect daily or let a mechanic fix it.
