hi if its just second to thrid then the clutch is slipping on thrid gear look at the boxes oil level is important but look at the colour is it red and tranperant as this is ok if its brown its a sign of the clutches slipping i would try a stall test on thrid gear first and if its ok second gear [manually] see is the engine stalls at the correct rpm if you thinkabout it imagine you are in thrid gear in a manuual box and suddenly drop into second it would be hard shifting it could also be a faulty thrid gear solenoid yates210456

I have the same Problem. I Simply cut into the middle of the boot between the door and body The broken wire was right there, I pulled each end out and held the wire there with a pair needle nose pliers, stripped the end with a knife and attach a mulyi-strand jumper between both ends with electrial wire twists. Leave 2" approx. then slip the boot back over them. Use # 14 Wire. A Quick reasonable fix. If brakes again repeat again. The new Haness will have the same Problem down the road.

SOURCE: How do you check the transmission fluid in a 2006
Fig. The gear oil fill and level plug shown with the transaxle assembly removed Fig. The gear oil fill and level plug is near the centerline of the drive axle. Make sure the vehicle is level when checking Fig. The differential fluid fill and level plug is on the side of the transmission near the axle. A suitable sized hex tool is needed to remove and install the plug
Fluid Level Check
Automatic Transaxle Differential Fluid
The manufacturer does not specify a maintenance interval for changing the differential oil/fluid. However, periodic inspection of the level of the fluid (and the fluid itself) is recommended. A high oil level indicates one of three conditions. First, the previous mechanic/owner may have accidentally overfilled the transaxle if the vehicle was not level. Secondly a high oil level (assuming the vehicle is level) can be caused by excessive condensation (water) in the differential. This may be a result of constant operation in wet areas, or high humidity. Moisture can condense inside of the transaxle in the same manner that a can of cold soda 'sweats' when removed from a refrigerator. Lastly, a high oil condition may indicate that the internal seals that separate the differential section from the torque converter/gearset are possibly faulty, and ATF has contaminated the differential oil.
NOTE
Access to the fill/level plug is difficult with the vehicle on the ground. The vehicle must be level to ensure an accurate reading. Carefully raise and safely support the vehicle on jackstands in order to access the fill/level plug. Make sure the vehicle is level before completely removing the plug.
SOURCE: how do i check transmissiom fluid 2006 jetta
Hi there,
Jetta's 2006 carry sealed gear box. There is no dip stick to check the transmission fluid. Per manufacturer, transmission fluid requires to change unless there is any issue with transmission. I hope this helps.
