SOURCE: 02 SS Monte Carlo , dash lights have quit working,

this only occured when the ambient light sensor turned on the headlights when it got to dark. if that is happening then check the headlight switch, the one that also dims the interior lights. mine had a burnt connector and fried the circuit board. replaced it and it works good. check for lose wires and connectors in there as well which likely caused the short.

There should be a Neutral safety switch, which also acts as a back-up light switch. It should be located close to where linkages attach to transmission, and is threaded into side of transmission. Not very expensive and about 10-15 min to change .motor1258_24.jpg

2013 Kia Ceed. Reverse light module location please?

Question edited for clarity.
Question moved to model category.

It isn't a module, just a switch. There appear to be 'issues'.

99 chevy lumina reverse lights not working. changed bulbs..nothing. the trunk release which is tied into the same harness also doesn't work. don't know if this is related. is there a switch t

This is a failure of the "remote function actuation module". It is located under the rear deck next to the right rear speaker. The rear seat must be removed to access it along with removing the rear deck. It controls the trunk release, door locks, dome light, and reverse light. My remote trunk release stopped working along with the relase button on the dash along with the reverse lights failing at the same time. The module is over $150 so I would try to find a way to rewire the lights to work without the module.

The DTR switch on the side of the transmission, that the shifter hooks to, to change the gear positions may have gone bad. Usually about fifty dollars, but you have to get it adjusted right, and that means using a shop manual to install it. don-ohio

2005 Pathfinder no reverse lights

On the side of your transmission will be a switch with several wires coming out of it. This is your reverse switch that turns on your reverse lights and most likely needs to be replaced

Do the backup lights work off the transmission or a switch on the column

I can relate ... been without reverse lights for a while.
Here's my understanding of the communications that take place in this process: when you put the vehicle in reverse, there is a backup light switch on the transmission that sends a signal to the Transmission Control Module (TCM), that then forwards that information to the BCM, and the BCM sends the signal to the backup lights.

Have had different diagnoses for the problem ranging from BCM (body control module), to FCM (front control module), to the standard bulb, wiring, etc. Dealer wanted to do a $1000+ job thinking it could be the BCM. Being cheap decided to do some troubleshooting on my own ... with help from another site where I contacted a Dodge Expert.

In my case, we tested wiring, and found there was a fault in the wire ... replaced with a new wire.
So sending 12V to from the battery to the lights made the reverse lights come on -- so wiring and bulbs good.

Didn't fully fix the issue ... tested the pin from the BCM that carrys the signal to the backup lights to come on and found that the BCM is NOT sending out the signal. Looks like it is a BCM issue but want to check to make sure the BCM is getting the right input signal. So that is now where my testing will go.

Hope that helps.
