I'm leaking brake fluid by front wheel. can I shut brake fluid off to that wheel??

this is a front wheel drive car there fore there is no rear end like a rear wheel drive. the fluid leak at the wheels is probably brake wheel cylinder/caliper or brake flex hose. check brake fluid level if its down then check for brake fluid leak if not then you will have to check the rear area for some other fluid leak.

If it is near the tire it is brake fluid. The brake fluid reservoir is back by the firewall driver side of engine compartment. Your car uses DOT 4 brake fluid.

Don't break the brakes.

2: is the MC (master cylinder , full of DOT3/4? fluid?
3; if MC fluid drops there is a leak.

Sounds like from what you describe it's a leaking break caliper. The best thing to do is get a rebuilt one. It's best to replace them in pairs. Also replace or clean the brake pads thoroughly!

i think there could be air in the system and it takes a little while to work back to the reservoir and the release of the air is pushing out the fluid. try bleeding the entire brake system from each wheel to the master cylinder see if it stops it

In this case, you will need to leak the for wheels, never leak only one or two wheels when adjusting the breaks. If the leaking continues you need to check the conduit for potential damages. If pedal stay soft after checking everything else, check the break fluid unit. The unit has a piston if I'm not wrong. The piston has some parts that are of rubber material which can wear out or get damaged.

Unless you have a leak in the brake system the only reason your brake fluid level master cylinder would be empty is that your brake pads are worn out. As they wear the fluid level goes down. You need to check for a leak at all 4 wheels and the complete system. If you find no leak then inspect all brake pads and replace as necessary. I would also bleed the brakes as you let the fluid get very low. More than likely a new set of brake pads will solve your problem. The only thing that is suspicious is the clunk you heard. Make sure a trusted mechanic gives your brake system a good inspection. It can be very dangerous if your brakes fail.

well if you are losing fluid you definatly have a leak as brake fluid is not a "topping off fluid". you could have a leaking master cylinder either externaly which can be seen on brake booster or it can be leaking into the brake booster filling it with fluid. other than that you also may be leaking from your brake hoses(one hose at each wheel), calipers(front wheels and rear if all wheel disc brakes), wheel cylinders (if you have rear drum brakes), or metal brake lines due to rust and corrosoin (run from master cylinder to each brake hose). please rate 4 thumbs if helpful.

Caliper Removal

1. CAUTION: Do not use heat to loosen a seized lug nut . Heat can damage the wheel and the wheel bearings.
   Loosen the lug nuts.
   1. Remove the center cap.
1. With the weight of the vehicle on the wheels, loosen the lug nuts.
1. WARNING: THE ELECTRICAL POWER TO THE AIR SUSPENSION SYSTEM MUST BE SHUT OFF PRIOR TO HOISTING, JACKING OR TOWING AN AIR SUSPENSION VEHICLE. THIS CAN BE ACCOMPLISHED BY TURNING OFF THE AIR SUSPENSION SWITCH LOCATED IN THE RH KICK PANEL AREA. FAILURE TO DO SO MAY RESULT IN UNEXPECTED INFLATION OR DEFLATION OF THE AIR SPRINGS WHICH MAY RESULT IN SHIFTING OF THE VEHICLE DURING THESE OPERATIONS.
   Raise and support the vehicle.
1. Remove the wheel and tire assembly.
   1. Remove the lug nuts.

2. CAUTION: Replace the lining if worn to or past specifications. Replace the brake shoes and linings in complete axle sets. Inspect the brake shoes and linings for wear or contamination.
3. WARNING: BRAKE FLUID CONTAINS POLYGLYCOL ETHERS AND POLYGLYCOLS. AVOID CONTACT WITH EYES. WASH HANDS THOROUGHLY AFTER HANDLING. IF BRAKE FLUID CONTACTS EYES, FLUSH EYES WITH RUNNING WATER FOR 15 MINUTES. GET MEDICAL ATTENTION IF IRRITATION PERSISTS. IF TAKEN INTERNALLY, DRINK WATER AND INDUCE VOMITING. GET MEDICAL ATTENTION IMMEDIATELY.
   Disconnect the front brake hose (2078).
   1. Remove the front brake hose bolt.
   1. Remove the copper washers. Plug the front brake hose.
1. Disconnect the front brake hose
4. Remove the disc brake caliper (2B120).
   1. Remove the two caliper bolts.
   1. Lift the front disc brake caliper (2B121) off the front disc brake caliper anchor plate.
5. On 4x2 vehicles, measure the front disc brake hub and rotor (1102) thickness.
   • Replace the front disc brake hub and rotor if not within specifications 27.7mm Min.
6. On 4x4 vehicles, measure the front disc brake rotor thickness.
   • Replace thhe front disc brake rotor if not within specifications. 27.7mm Min.
7. Inspect the disc brake caliper for leaks.
   • If leaks are found, disassembly is required

Front brakes if they are disc it is a caliper if they are drum you havve wheel cylinders. Call the parts store give them the year and they will get you the right part
