My 2002 Jaguar X-Type needs a new battery. What type of battery do I need? Where can I find one? All the local retailers in my town seem to be unable to help me.

Check the negative battery cable for corrosion. I would start by replacing it. Lots internal ground cable corrosion problems on the x-type. If you have a battery light on and the positive cable is very hot then you need to replace the pos. Cable also.
Maybe get your local garage to use their scanner and read the fault codes. Then progress from there as the fault will become clear. But from experience the s-type often suffers from oxygen sensor problems
You can add some life to your battery by opening it and adding some water. it gives the battery some short term life, but not very reliable, the best way is to install a new battery.
