SOURCE: Can't turn key all the way on 1996 Toyota Camry.

Is your steering wheel locked? Turn the key as much as you can, then turn the steering wheel and see if it releases the lock. You should be able to completely turn the key after this.

SOURCE: 1992 toyota celica key wont turn and alarm system going off

The steering lock may be binding the ignition lock cyl preventing the key from turning or the key may be worn out. Try turning the steering wheel back and forth while wiggling and turning the ignition key. To get the alarm to turn off without starting the car try locking and unlocking the vehicle from the passenger side door. There is a micro switch on the drivers side door lock cyl that may be bad and preventing the alarm from dis arming. This is all providing it is a toyota factory alarm sys.

My ignition switch will not turn all the way back to the off position, so my key is stuck in the car. ive changed the ignition itself but its the same problem as before

Check the lower steering column plastic bushing. It may have come out of place and is stopping the column lock mechanism from entering the column. You should replace the bushing as soon as possible but removing it will allow you to remove the key.

Key is stuck in ignition. Depressing the "unlock"

Somtimes you need to turn the steering wheel a little to allow the lock to engage.

Try depress the unlock button while moving the steering back and forth a little. Try a lot..
If not work, drape a scarf or towel over steering column to hide key in ignition, and use spare key to open door lock. You do have spare key?
Check your insurance, you may have lock smith lock out coverage.
Good luck.

Ignition switch replacment

Ignition Switch REMOVAL & INSTALLATION The ignition switch is located at the bottom of the ignition key cylinder body. To remove the ignition switch, first remove the ignition lock cylinder.

1993–99 Golf and Jetta
  1. Disconnect the negative battery cable.
  2. Center the steering wheel.
  3. Remove the air bag.
  4. Remove the steering column switches.
  5. If the vehicle is equipped with an automatic transmission, detach the shift lock cable from the lock cylinder housing.
  6. Remove the adapter sleeve from the steering column.
  7. Remove the spring and horn contact ring from the steering column assembly.
  8. Detach the sheer bolt.
  9. Insert the ignition key and unlock the cylinder, then detach the wiring connectors.
  10. Once all wiring has been detached, slide the housing off the steering column.
  11. Mark and drill the lock cylinder as shown and described in the above procedure.
  12. Compress the stop spring and pull the lock cylinder out of the steering column housing.
  13. Put the new lock cylinder into the steering lock housing.
  14. Insert the key into the lock cylinder.
  15. While you gently turn the key, insert the lock cylinder fully into the housing.
  16. The rest of the installation procedure is the reverse of removal. NOTE: Always use a new shear pin when installing the lock cylinder.

Remove steering wheel and steering column in 1992 acura legend

first , as you try to turn on the ignition , move the steering back and forth to release the pressure on the lock tab on the steering shaft
next you will have to install a safety pin to stop the air bag going off
there are 4 bots that hold the lock assembly onto the shaft but you will need a grinder to get the bolts out as they have no heads
it is easier to remove the steering column complete from the car to replace the switch
it is not really a diy job unless you have a workshop manual and some mechanical experience

Celica ignition removal

OK. Look directly under the steering column. You will see the silver ignition lock assembly, with a band that covers the round column housing. Holding the band onto the lock assembly, do you see something that resembles two "broken off" bolts? This is where the Dremel comes in handy. What you need to do is to score, scratch, chisel, anything, a slot that you can put a screwdriver into. The bolts are not tight, the heads break off to prevent people from removing them to rip off the ignition/steal the car. After getting the slot cut, use a screwdrive to rotate the bolts out. I would guess that a drill and an "easy-out" would work, but, I have never tried it. The Moto-Tool works great.
After you get the bolts out, the lock falls off of the column. Hope this helps, and thanks for choosing FixYA. The graciousness of a FIxYa rating on my solution would be greatly appreciated.

Key stuck in ignition

Take the steering column cover off and tap/hit the ignition barrel with suitable tool (small hammer)while twisting on key.It may be enough to loosen it so key comes out.You will have to remove steering column cover to swap with replacment barrel anyway .Get someone to turn steering wheel while tapping/hitting barrel as it could be the steering column lock pin thats jamming.good luck.
