Turn off the Grand Prix's engine, but leave the keys in the ignition.
Switch the ignition to the "ON" position, but do not turn on the engine.
Press and release the brake pedal. Repeat this two more times, and complete the three repetitions in under five seconds. If this does not work, try again. Ensure that you are completely pressing and releasing the pedal.
Remove the keys from the ignition.

You may have a bad wheel sensor or broken ABS sensor wire.
Go to Auto Zone or Parts source and they can scan the computer on your can for free.
If the computer detected any one of the sensor going bad or is bad, it may be in the memory and you'll know if it is the ABS sensor or the ABS module it self.
Good luck and hope this can save you some money. I had the same problem and it was my wheel bearing going bad which messed up my ABS sensor.

SOURCE: abs and traction control light faults after a brake job. 2005 Pontiac grand prix

You have a bad sensor at one of the tires that need replacing that operates ABS and traction control. If you take it in to a shop it will run $130 but they can find which sensor is causing the problem. But if you do it you might have to replace all 4 sensors to make sure you got the right one. Every hard to diagnoses. Its better for the shop cause they can get electrical read outs for each sensor.

SOURCE: 1997 grand prix gtp. Tire pressure/abs light

Hello! This indicates a fault with the wheel speed sensor/ABS sensor. Any major auto parts retailer can pull the details of this code (which sensor) for free, which will help you identify if the wiring is loose or damaged or if the sensor will need to be replaced. If you need to replace the sensor - you will need to replace the entire wheel bearing assembly, as the sensor is internal.

sensor might be dirty, try removing them and cleaning them. Dont use sprays as they pose a threat more than they fix. Check tires to see if there is one that might be WAY lower than the rest. Or consider taking it to a shop if you cant find the rigth abs sensor.
