2000 VW Jetta TDI my Horn just stopped! I don't know which relay to start by, The fuse is good but no V at horns Is there a wiring diagram to be had?

Hey there! There was posted a wiring diagram re "What fuse controlled what on a VW Eos" which I can't read nor enlarge. Would there be same for a 2000 VW Jetta TDI? My horn stopped working, the fuse is good but don't know what relay I should look at that manages the horn or connections between the relay or fuse I should encounter. I have no pwr at the horns but good grounds on the other pins. The fuse should [be between relay OP & horn Y?]control the load downstream of the relay right?-vice power to the relay via the Steering Wheel switch to make the relay work! I still can't find which relay to check if there's switching V from the Str Wheel which shouldn't be fused either..! Anyone?

There is a "clockspring" wiring spiral in the steering wheel to accommodate the rotating steering wheel with controls on it. If this breaks, you may lose some or all functions controlled by stuff on the s-wheel.

Best way to find out is a multimeter pl;ace one lead to horn lead and the other to relay box to find the horn must pull out the relay and teast the leads til the meter either beepd or ahows connection that would be your relay to replace if bad.

  • Greig McKellar Sep 12, 2014

Yes i know that's what I need to do but unless I can find which relay and I should expect there are about 20 relays unless I can find which that means doing continuity readings on 20 relays........ Which relay and is the fuse between the relay terminal and the horn or before the relay?? Nothing comes up for relay panel or relay placement only which fuse -which has a decal on panel cover for that! Does anyone have a wiring diagram?

Where is the horn relay for 2006 jetta, fuse is fine, horn doesn't work, I hear slight tick when pressing the horn. Is it in the dash or behind bumper?

Sorry not sure where the relay is but VW do tend to group all the relays together on or behind the fusebox though not all horn systems have a relay.

As you are hearing a tick when you press the horn it it possible the horn itself is faulty or the connections/wiring to it and it is advisable to check these things first.

Bear in mind a 2006 model could be fully computerised and if so I strongly suggest you proceed carefully as the circuits are likely to be significantly different to what was typical on earlier vehicles.

2000 VW golf horn won't work, fuse is good , relay 53 is good but changed it anyway. No voltage reading at horns. Tested horn off car and it is fine

Did you check the power to the relay? and then the signal wire (ground) at the relay to see if it's being signaled? Otherwise you may have a clockspring or module problem not allowing the signal to pass through to the relay.

The horn on my volkswagen jetta 1999 will not work. I heard a clicking sound under the dash, and replaced the relay--no more clicking sound, but the horn still does not work. I checked the leads to the...

check all your fuses first. if they are all good, remove the horn relay and check to see if it has power to it with key on, horn not pressed. it should. if it does, check to make sure the power is flowing through the relay when horn is depressed. theres should be a wiring diagram on the relay. if power is not getting through, replace the relay, if it is getting through you have a broken wire between relay and horn.
