Why wont car upshift when headlights are on? - 1993 Ford Escort 4 Door

There is an electrical short somewhere causing a bad signal to transmission while headlight on.i have a similar problem with my ford truck except when on turn headlamps on it cuts the power to the fuel pump and ignition lol sadly im still looking for where my bad wire is located.if you find your bad wire you will solve your problem if not its best to go to a dealer or certified mechanic .downside is we all know dealers and mechanics are expensive hopefully you can find your bad wire on your own good luck

First thing to check would be the trans oil level
To little oil will cause it not to shift
And worse case the torque converter needs replacement

It is very likely that a complete rebuild is needed along with a flush out of debris and a new torque converter.

I have a 97 buick park avenue v6. It is shifting erratically wont shift till it hits a certain rpm i dont have any power whwn i push the gas but once i get it up to speed it goes good.

1996 GMC suburban wont upshift.

when u changed the fluid was it dark /brownish and smelt burnt and was their filings or shavings on the magnet in pan if so more than likely your transmission may be fried---a bad vacuum that would cause shifting problems would also cause the truck to run rough and or stall

you have a valve body problem, some of the speed sonsor controls are malfunctioning... need to get into the valve body... check fluid condition for dirty and burned condition...
