Im looking to find out the part names on my 1999 3100 sfi v6 malibu engine. These part names elude me.

Difficult to see because they are on their side, and Fixya doesn't provide a way to enlarge images.

There are some good diagrams here and the video tab has tear down videos

Why won't my key turn?

Ignition cylinder could be bad, it happens. Try turning wheel one way while trying, then try the other way. If still no then either your using the wrong key or cylinder is bad. You can replace it yourself as long as you don't have chip in your key...im pretty sure if that is case your better off having dealer do it. U can ask your local parts store about that. Just looked it up...here is link Ignition Lock Cylinder 1998 Mercury Grand Marquis 8 Cylinders 4 6L SFI... 27 bucks

How can you tell what type of transmission is in my 1998 chevy malibu

Whether your Malibu is:
(a) 4 cylinder 2.4L SFI DOHC Vin "T", or
(b) 6 cylinder 3.1L SFI OHV Vin "M"

SFI = fuel injected
DOHC = dual overhead camshaft
OHV = overhead valves
Vin = 17-digit unique car identifier - the 8th digit identifies the engine (not the transmission), and
as you can see, your engine will be identified by the 8th digit = "T" or "M"

your car has the Chevrolet 4T40E automatic transmission (aka "automatic transaxle")
Here are some specifications:

Hi i got a 1998 grand cherokee none of the

If the motor works when you jump it directly Then your issue is with wiring and/or switches. Look in the door jams at the wiring. Pull back the boots and visually inspect for broken wires. Then check switches. Both of those were common issues.
Let me know how that works for you?

How do you replace the starter in 1998 chevy malibu

The starter is very simple to replace, 1st always disconnect the battery, the wires at the starter are hot with 12 volts always present, remove the 2 attaching bolts for the starter to the engine block, then remove the wiring, one heavy cable and a bunch of smaller wires, one of those goes to the starter solenoid, mark it, the others are what are called fuse links and provide power to the rest of the car, clean up everything and then re-install in reverse order.
