DTC P0411/16795: SECONDARY AIR SYSTEM - INCORRECT FLOW DETECTED
Test Requirements
Ensure all fuses are okay, battery voltage is at least 11.5 volts, all electrical accessories are off, A/C is off.
Ensure engine is mechanically sound.
Test Procedure

NOTE
Secondary air system is activated by ECM and blows air into exhaust pipe
upstream of catalytic converter for 100 seconds during a cold start, 41-91°F (5-
33°C). Engine must be cold to perform following test procedure.

1. Ensure fuse and secondary fuse (secondary fuse is 40 amp and is located in fuse holder on top of battery)
are okay. Check hoses and components of Secondary Air Injection System, for damage, loose fit and
improper installation, check vacuum hoses for Secondary Air Injection System. Repair as necessary.
Erase DTC memory. Verify repair. If DTC does not reset, test is complete. Perform ECM relearn
procedure. See TEST DRIVE RELEARN PROCEDURE .
2. Remove engine cover. Disconnect pressure hose from Secondary Air Pump Motor (V101), by pressing
buttons on hose connector. See Fig. 33 . Using scan tool, check Secondary Air Pump Motor (V101) in
scan tool Output Diagnostic Test Mode (Secondary Air Pump Relay activation mode). See OUTPUT
DIAGNOSTIC TEST MODE .
3. Secondary Air Pump Motor (V101) should run in intervals and air should exit pump at hose connection.
If Secondary Air Pump Motor (V101) is okay, go to step 7 . If motor runs and no air exits secondary air
pump motor, replace faulty Secondary Air Pump Motor (V101). Erase DTC memory. Verify repair. Test
is complete. Perform ECM relearn procedure. See TEST DRIVE RELEARN PROCEDURE . If
secondary air pump motor does not run, go to next step.
4. Disconnect Secondary Air Pump Motor (V101) harness connector, install LED test light at secondary air
pump harness connector terminals. Turn ignition on. Using scan tool, activate Secondary Air Pump Motor
(V101) in scan tool Output Diagnostic Test Mode (Secondary Air Pump Relay activation mode). See
OUTPUT DIAGNOSTIC TEST MODE . LED test light at Secondary Air Pump Motor (V101) harness
connector should flash. If LED test light at Secondary Air Pump Motor (V101) harness connector does
not flash, go to next step. If LED test light at Secondary Air Pump Motor (V101) harness connector
flashes, replace faulty Secondary Air Pump Motor (V101). Erase DTC memory. Verify repair. Test is
complete. Perform ECM relearn procedure. See TEST DRIVE RELEARN PROCEDURE .
5. Using DVOM check resistance of Secondary Air Pump Motor (V101) wiring. See appropriate WIRING
DIAGRAM under ENGINE PERFORMANCE in SYSTEM WIRING DIAGRAMS. Resistance should
be a maximum of 1.5 ohms for each reading. Check wiring for short circuit to one another in Secondary
Air Pump Motor (N101) harness connector. Repair as necessary. Erase DTC memory. Verify repair. Test
is complete. Perform ECM relearn procedure.
Secondary Air Pump Motor (N101) wiring is okay, go to next step.
6. Check Secondary Air Pump Relay (J299) and Secondary Air Pump Relay (J299) wiring. See DTC
P0418/16802: SECONDARY AIR PUMP RELAY (J299), MALFUNCTION . Repair or replace as
necessary. Erase DTC memory. Verify repair. Test is complete. Perform ECM relearn procedure. See
TEST DRIVE RELEARN PROCEDURE .
7. Disconnect vacuum hose from Secondary Air Injection Valve (N112) and disconnect pressure hose from
secondary air pump motor, press buttons on pressure hose connector to disconnect pressure hose. See Fig.
34 . Blow lightly into disconnected pressure hose, Combi-Valve should be closed. Connect hand vacuum
pump to disconnected vacuum hose and apply vacuum to Combi-Valve, Combi-Valve should open. If
Combi-Valve opens when vacuum is applied, Combi-Valve is okay. Go to next step. If Combi-Valve
does not open when vacuum is applied, replace faulty Combi-Valve. Erase DTC memory. Verify repair.
Test is complete. Perform ECM relearn procedure. See TEST DRIVE RELEARN PROCEDURE .
8. Check Secondary Air Injection Valve (N112). See DTC P0412/16796: SECONDARY AIR
INJECTION VALVE (N112), ELECTRICAL CIRCUIT MALFUNCTION . Repair as necessary.
Erase DTC memory. Verify repair. Test is complete. Perform ECM relearn procedure.
NOTE: Do not use compressed air to check Combi-Valve.

SOURCE: front speaker installation for VW Passat

If you've not taken speakers out before they are easy to do, you have to pull the door trim off, first look if there are any screws and take them out then carefully pull the trim away from the door and using a torch you will see plastic holding clips you have to pull the trim off at that point, some will break but they are a few cent only and can be got from the VW dealer readily, take your time and you "might" not break any of them, I find a plastic 12" ruler to be handy along with a flat bladed screwdriver, first cover all the blade of the screwdriver with masking tape to stop any damage if you slip.
very simple job to do just take your time and dont rush the clips have a tough hold on the doors also.

fuses are usually in the glove box or under the drivers dash or under the drivers side hood either physically inspect every fuse by pulling them one by one or the aid of a test light and a good ground to the test light

2002 Passat. The dealer is giving me a hard time

Convenience Control Module Where do I start, this is a bit long winded, but worth the wait….
Back in August 2008, my alarm started going off at all hours of the day and night and often I would be driving along the road with the alarm sounding as I went. After several days of checking fuses and relays etc I booked it into a reputable VW specialist in Totton, who proceeded to charge me £75.00 for the privaledge of telling me it was probably the Convenience Control Module (CCM). At a cost of £207.00 I could not afford one at the time. As the days and weeks past my electric windows stopped working and remote gave up, interior lights stopped and clicking came from the passenger foot well. On finding this website I began to do some DIY and located the looms under the passenger foot well everything that was supposed to be there was there. Unfortunately there was no corrosion, I wish there had been.
This is where it gets better. It is now October 2008 and I am threaders now, so I speak to the original garage that did the diagnostics and they were going to charge me £337.00 to purchase and “program” the CCM. I then rang VW Parts department in Southampton and ordered the CCM at a cost of £207.00, they then diverted me to the VW servicing department who then told me it required programming at 2 hours work that will be £275.00 fitting, VAT, and labour. I nearly fainted and told them that I was not interested in their high charges and that I would seek fitting elsewhere.
At this point I rang another reputable garage in Durrington, who had helped me out in the past with another problem, they were going to charge me £40.00 + VAT, that’s better so I booked it in. I collected the CCM from VW parts and connected it up, the windows worked perfectly and the interior lights worked fine. The remote and alarm obviously needed programming so I waited until the Saturday morning for the inevitable “programming”.
Nearly finished. I waited at the garage whilst they took it in and after 10 mins returned and asked for my spare key, which of course I did not bring. They said therefore that they could not program the CCM etc, however, I could do it myself… What? I said. All you need to do is place one key in the ignition whilst using the other one to lock the car whilst pressing the lock button for about 5 seconds and then do this with the unlock button also for 5 seconds and then repeat with the other key.
They didn’t charge me for the advice or the 10 mins they had already spent on it. I returned home and “programmed” the CCM and the remote works fine and the alarm works fine, everything works great. I was livid and angry that the 10 seconds worth of work could have cost me £275.00 by VW who said it would take 2 hours worth of labour.
I realise that they have to make a living but that is taking the biscuit surely. If this helps just one person then it is worthwhile.

2000 vw passat blows fuse # 14 -if you unplug the comfort control module under the drivers rug the fuse won't blow

I have a 2000 passat that had issues with the comfort control module. A lot of the interior electronic features stopped working (i.e., power windows). It turned out that there is a connection in the wiring that gets corroded due to water. The wiring is external to the actual ccm box, but under the carper. I simply removed the wrapping, and re-soldered the wire. It may be that something similar is happening here and causing a short, that in turn blows the fuse.
