SOURCE: A loud sound shortly after starting my car

I'm guessing that you Expedition has been making this noise probably since you've had it? Even if it hasn't, I think I can bring you some comfort. If you could pinpoint where the noise was coming from under the hood, would you say that it's somewhere over on the passenger side? My dad owns a 1998 Ford Eddie Bauer Expedition, and we noticed a loud noise with the same habits as what you're describing. Come to find out, there is an air compressor under the hood, I can't remember exactly what it's for, but the sound that I believe you're hearing is the compressor filling up with air and then shutting off once the proper amount of pressure is reached. You might try popping the hood to try to locate the exact place that it's coming from, but I can tell you that it's probably a 99% chance that when you find your noise, you'll find the compressor I'm referring to. Hope this proves to solve your issue and helps to ease your worries. Have a wonderful evening!

James

SOURCE: 1999 ford taurus starter will not engage

Hi and welcome to FixYa,

To my knowledge, you assumption is correct on most designs. That wire should go to the ignition switch and will be hot when key is in START. However, same wire often would be connected first to a relay that is interlocked with some conditions/status other then key to START. They would be:

  • automatic transmission should be in neutral/park with light indicated;
  • alarm/security/immobilizer is inactive/OFF.
Good luck and Thank you for using FixYa. Happy Holidays.

SOURCE: 1999 FORD EXPEDITION VEHICLE SPEED SENSOR

It should be on the back of the transmission near where the driveshaft goes in. Buy a new one, jack up your truck and look for the old one on the back of the transmission

My keys are locked in my 1999 ford expedition and I dont have my key pad # can u help

Bust out a window to retrive the keys or call a locksmith. Your local police dept might be able to help, as they usually can open the doors without a key. They have slimjims.

Hello and welcome to FixYa!
As a first course of action, I strongly suggest that you have the bushings checked. They can be worn out that's why during take off you can hear a clunking sound. Do check the brake pads too for if they are worn out you'll notice a metal to metal noise.
Hope this helps and thank you for using FixYa! Have a good one!

My 1999 ford expidition want start

Could be many things. First i would listen for the fuel pump to kick on whenever you turn the key on(without starting). Then if you don't hear it kicking on, check all your fuses. Especially the fuel pump fuse. If none of your fuses are bad, then your fuel pump is shot and you need to replace it. After that, if it still wont start, Check to see if your getting spark to your spark plugs. You can do this by taking the sprk plug out, and keeping it hooked to the wire and have someone try to crank the motor. As they are turning the motor over, see if you see the spark plug sparking. If not, then its your coil packs, or your vehicle is off time. ALSO, try changing the crank sensor. That could be why its not starting as well. Hope this helps, James Booth. Please rate this. :) And good luck with your experiance in trying to crank your vehicle. Have a good day.

My keys are locked on my 99 expedition. It has a keypad but i dont know the code. Its 99 expedition EB. I'm trying to get in my vehicle without having to call a locksmith

Unfortunately there is no good way about that, however there is light at the end of the tunnel, once you get it open your local ford dealer can pull up that code through their computer and you will never have to worry about it again, i carry mine in my wallet, i have even seen it written underneath the wheel wells on customer cars i have worked on.

No key for 2001 ford expedition

you can't start the vehicle without taking it in and having a new key programmed to it- you can have a key made- it will unlock it and turn in the ign. but will not start without programming- your ford dealer may be able to get the key code for the vehicle but most likely you'll also have to purchase a new ign. cylinder and have 2 keys made because it takes 2 keys to program after an erase. hope this helps, good luck
