Was removing the thermostat on my 98 Chrysler Concord cross threaded the bolt and broke the head in engine block. I removed the thermostat housing and I can't get the bolt out of block, what is the best to remove the stud sticking out?

Studs often get damaged from overtightening or from cross threading a nut on the threads. A damaged stud is replaced by unscrewing it from the part and installing a new one of the exact same size.
Stud replacement can be difficult because the stud has often been in place for a long period of time. There has been constant heating and cooling, corrosion, and rust buildup between the stud threads and the internal threads of the part. These factors combine to make some studs very difficult to remove.
The first step in stud removal is to use penetrating fluid to remove the corrosion to free the stud from its mating threads. Soak the area of the threads with penetrating fluid. Allowing the fluid to soak into the threads overnight will make it easier to remove the stud.
Before removing the old stud, measure the distance it sticks up from the surface. This measurement will be needed later when installing the new stud. Use a 6-inch scale to measure from the part surface to the top of the stud. Write the measurement down so it can be referred to later.
A stud remove is used to remove studs. It is installed over the stud. The jaws on the stud remover grip the outside of the stud. A wrench fits on the stud remover and allows the technician to rotate the stud in a counterclockwise direction to remove the stud.
If a stud remover is not available, a stud can be removed with two nuts. Locate two nuts that are the correct thread size. To thread onto the stud. Start one nut and thread it all the way down to the bottom of the stud. This nut will be the drive nut. Start another nut and thread it down until it contacts the first nut. This is called the jam nut.
Put a wrench on the bottom drive nut and hold it in place. Put another wrench on the jam nut and tighten, or "jam" it against the drive nut. The jam nut will now hold the drive nut in position on the stud.
Now put an open-end wrench on the bottom drive nut. Turn the nut in a counterclockwise direction. Turning the nut in this direction causes it to want to unscrew the stud. Instead the forces cause the stud to unscrew.
When the old stud is out, inspect the internal thread. If it appears rusty or damaged, clean up the thread by running the correct size tap through the threads as previously explained. Compare the new stud with the old one. The studs should be exactly the same thread size and the same length.
Check the vehicle's service manual to determine if the threads of the new stud should be coated. If the stud should be locked in place and not easily removed, you may need to use a threadlocking compound or threadsealing compound. Threadlocking compounds are on studs and other fasteners when vibration might cause them to unscrew. Thread sealants are used when a stud extends where liquids, such as oil or coolant, could get on the fastener.
Antiseize compound is used on the stud threads to prevent the stud from reacting with the metal on the internal threads. If this happens, the stud could stick or seize. Antiseize compound prevents this reaction and makes the stud easier to remove the next time.
After the new stud is properly coated, it can be installed. Start the stud by hand, making sure it enters the threads securely. Turn the stud in as far as possible by hand before using any tools. Then use two nuts as described earlier to drive the stud into the part. Use the depth measurement made on the old stud to be sure it is driven in the correct depth.

You need to de adjust the handbrake shoes through the small inspection cover on the back plates. Slackening off the parkbrake cable may help as well.

you dont have to take it off. remove the 2 15mm bolts and pry the bracket sideways w/ a prybar. This shortens your time. You most likely have a 90amp alternator so it should be small enough to slide through.

Head gasket installation instructions for 1995 mercury mystique 2.0

NOTE: Ford does not provide camshaft gear timing marks, or information to perform timing belt service without the special tools shown in this procedure.

REMOVAL
1. Drain engine coolant from radiator and cylinder block by removing the drain plugs.
2. Remove the intake manifold.
3. Remove exhaust manifold.
4. Remove camshafts.
5. Remove valve tappets from cylinder head, then support front of engine with wood block between crankshaft pulley and front subframe.
6. Remove righthand engine lifting eye bolt, then righthand engine lifting eye.
7. Remove power steering pump mounting bracket and cylinder head support bracket.
8. Remove camshaft timing belt tensioner pulley and front cover from front of cylinder head.
9. Remove water thermostat housing from cylinder head as follows:
a. Raise and support vehicle.
b. Disconnect crankcase ventilation tube from positive crankcase ventilation valve.
c. Disconnect upper radiator hose and radiator overflow hose from water hose connection.
d. Remove water outlet connection bolts and water hose connection from water thermostat housing.
e. Remove water thermostat and seal from water thermostat, then seal from water thermostat housing. Inspect seals for damage and replace if necessary.
10. Remove ignition coil bracket from cylinder head as follows:
a. Disconnect fuel charging wiring or engine control sensor wiring from ignition coil, then ignition wires by squeezing locking tabs and twisting while pulling upward.
b. Remove ignition coil bolts or screws, then coil.
c. Remove ignition coil bracket.

11. Remove spark plugs from cylinder head, then cylinder head bolts in sequence. Discard cylinder head bolts.
12. Remove cylinder head and head gasket from cylinder block.
13. If necessary, remove lefthand engine lifting eye from cylinder head.
14. Inspect cylinder head and cylinder block, then replace components as required.

INSTALLATION
1. Reverse procedure to install, noting following:
a. Clean cylinder head intake manifold, valve cover and cylinder head gasket surfaces. Ensure flatness of cylinder head and cylinder block gasket surfaces meets specifications.

b. Torque new cylinder head bolts in sequence, first to 15-22 ft lb, then to 30-37 ft lb. Finally tighten all bolts an additional 90-120° in the same sequence.

Step by step replacing the thermostat

Break free 2 bolts on thermostat housing, loosen hose going into housing and clamp, it will leak some antifreeze. Once the housing is taken off block clean off old gasket material from both surfaces. The block and housing, be careful not to scratch the surfaces. No sharp pointy objects, aluminum is soft. Then take the old thermostat out and put in the new one. Put gasket in place ,align housing and put , bolts in by hand first, so it doesn't cross thread. Just snug bolts and top off system with antifreeze . Start engine ,put on heat and run until thermostat opens. Check for leaks, tighten bolts 1/4 turn should be fine. Add antifreeze in overflow bottle if needed.

Check this procedure for Canyon, Colorado 2004-2005 - Removal & Installation
  1. Drain the cooling system.
  2. Raise and support the vehicle only high enough to access the thermostat housing through the wheelhouse.
  3. Remove the left wheelhouse liner.
  4. Remove the radiator inlet hose from the thermostat housing.
  5. Remove the thermostat housing bolts.
  6. Remove the thermostat housing from the engine block.
  7. Clean and inspect the thermostat housing.
  8. Clean and inspect the sealing surface of the engine block.
To install:
  1. Position the thermostat housing to the engine block.
  2. Install the thermostat housing bolts and tighten to 89 inch lbs. (10 Nm).
  3. Connect the radiator inlet hose to the thermostat housing.
  4. Install the left wheelhouse liner.
  5. Lower the vehicle.
  6. Fill the cooling system.
  7. Inspect all sealing surfaces for leaks after starting the engine.

  8. Clean and inspect the sealing surface of the engine block.
To install:
  1. Position the thermostat housing to the engine block.
  2. Install the thermostat housing bolts and tighten to 89 inch lbs. (10 Nm).
  3. Connect the radiator inlet hose to the thermostat housing.
  4. Install the left wheelhouse liner.
  5. Lower the vehicle.
  6. Fill the cooling system.
  7. Inspect all sealing surfaces for leaks after starting the engine.

Where is the thermostat located on a 2004 chrysler concord 3.5

The thermostat is located at the end of the lower radiator hose at the engine Next to the oil filter. Sometimes it is easier to change the oil at the same time cause if you remove the oil filter it makes it easier to get to one of the bolts to remove the housing where the thermostat is. Follow the TOP hose on your radiator to where it connects on your engine block. The thermostat is under the metal piece mounted to the block which the hose is connected to. It typically has to bolts to remove and you will find the thermostat under it once you remove the mounting.

Need to replace a Thermostat on a 2001 PT Cruiser. Have the new Thermostat need insturctions on how to do the replacement.

Most thermostats are located in the upper radiator hose housing mounted to engine block. Make sure engine is cold put a catch pan under your car to catch any antifreeze that comes out. Remove the two bolts holding the housing on the engine and remove thermostat and gasket. Clean engine block where gasket goes very good and also the housing, have to remove all gasket material so when installing new one it will seal and wont cause a leak. Make sure when you put the thermostat back in it goes in spring side down towards engine. Replace housing and bolts. replace lost coolant with a 50/50 mixture in your recovery tank. Start engine let heat to temp and check for leaks.

I need to know where the location of the thermostat is on a 1999 chrysler 300m so i can replace

The 2.7L engine lower radiator hose, connects to the thermostat housing.

To Remove:
1.Disconnect the Negative battery cable.
(Engine COLD!)
  1. Drain cooling system.
  2. Remove radiator lower hose from thermostat housing.
  3. Remove nuts from heater tube flange studs.
  4. Loosen starter bolt at heater tube bracket.
  5. Pull heater tube out of thermostat housing and position out of the way.
  6. Remove bolt and two studs.
  7. Remove thermostat housing, O-ring and thermostat.
  8. Remove thermostat housing bolts.
To install:
A.Clean gasket sealing surfaces.
B.Install thermostat with the bleed valve located at the 12 o'clock position, between tabs on seal.
  1. Install thermostat and seal into thermostat housing .
  2. If removed, install two studs.
  3. Install thermostat, thermostat housing and O-ring and bolt. Tighten attaching bolts to 105 inch lbs.(12 Nm).
  4. Lubricate new heater return tube O-ring with coolant.
  5. Position heater return tube flange over two studs. Install nuts.
  6. Tighten retaining nuts to 53 inch lbs.(6 Nm).
  7. Tighten starter bolt to 40 ft. lbs. (54.3 Nm).
  8. Connect the lower radiator hose to the thermostat housing. Install hose clamps.
  9. Refill cooling system.
  10. Inspect for leaks.
  11. Connect negative cable.
3.2 and 3.5L engines:
Disconnect the battery cable. (Again engine COLD)
  1. Drain cooling system.
  2. Raise vehicle on hoist.
  3. Disconnect electrical connectors from engine oil and power steering pressure switches.
  4. Disconnect radiator and heater hoses from thermostat housing.
  5. Remove thermostat housing bolts.
  6. Remove housing, thermostat, and gasket.
The OEM thermostat is staked in place at the factory. To ensure proper seating of replacement thermostat, carefully remove the bulged metal from the thermostat housing, using a suitable hand held grinder. It is not necessary to restake the replacement thermostat, into the thermostat housing.

To Install:
  1. Position gasket on thermostat and housing.
  2. Install thermostat housing, gasket and mounting bolts onto block. Tighten attaching bolts to 105 inch lbs. (12 Nm).
  3. Install radiator hose.
  4. Install bypass hose.
  5. Connect electrical connectors from engine oil and power steering pressure switches.
  6. Connect negative cable.
  7. Fill cooling system.
  8. Inspect for leaks.
  9. Lower vehicle on hoist.
