Your turn signal ground most likely is hooked up to the ground wire from the headlights. In other words, when the headlights are off, the signal lights ground through the headlights. But when the headlights are on, with their much greater current, they ground through the signal lights and essentially make it so that the signal lights have no ground. Make sure your headlights and signal lights have their own proper grounds.

Determine the type of headlights you have on your car. You can only adjust composite headlights if they bolt to adjuster plates. For dual headlights, look on the headlights for four adjustment screws per side. Sealed beam units have interior adjustment screws under the hood.

4 Locate your adjustment screws. On sealed beam units, you may need to remove the trim screws and pull the trim off to reveal the Torx screws.

5 Begin with you headlights turned on to the low beam. Use a Torx screwdriver for sealed beam units and Phillips screwdrivers for other types of headlights.

It's not just burned out headlights that cause problems; headlights that are dim or incorrectly aligned can also lead to accidents. Fortunately, learning how to repair headlights is something even the least mechanically inclined person can do. Headlights that don't turn on
If you're headlights aren't working at all, the most likely cause is a burned out bulb. All you need to do to repair the headlights is replace the bulb. If you have plastic lenses, you can take out the old bulb by removing the lens and unscrewing the bulb from the back of the lens. With glass headlights, though, you'll need to replace the whole glass. Since you're buying new bulbs anyway, consider picking up one of the new, brighter types of bulbs, such as the halogen or xenon types.
When you've got your replacement bulb, install it and turn on the lights. If the headlights still don't work, it's a sign of an electrical problem.
