SOURCE: fuse for interior lights

First thing to check is the brake light fuse and the brake light switch.Have a look to verify that the brake lights do or do not come on.If they do come on then i would be checking the wiring to the plug on the brake light switch. If you find nothing wrong there the listen for a click down under the dash, that will be a solenoid that actually does the releasing for you if there is no noise then you will need to get the park switch tested.

SOURCE: 1996 toyota Corolla cannot shift

Check to see if its stop light switch ,as third is a main cause of this sort of problem ,but also it could be the solonoid on top of the shifter thats down so use a multi meter to see if you have power to the solonoid and if no power then check for power to and out of the brake light switch

Car will not start and shifter is stuck in park on 93 toyota corolla

Make sure the shifter is all the way in PARK. Try to start the car. IF not work, you could try jiggling the shifter while trying to start the car. (note: most shifters won't budge from park until the car is started for safety reasons). good luck. ALso try jiggling the steering wheel too while trying to start the car. If none of this works, then it might be that the ignition starter is bad and needs replacing. I can't guarantee any of this will work since I don't have all the details. If all else fails, take it in for repair!
Good Luck!

Anti shift gear car wont come out of park

follow the steps . God bless you
Instructions
    • 1 Start the engine. Press firmly on the brake while wiggling the shifter from side to side.
    • 2 Remove the console surrounding the shifter. It is usually very easy although you may need to use the screwdriver to lift an edge or remove a clip
    • 3 Look inside the shifter mechanism for any sticky substance. Often when drinks are spilled on the console they seep down into the shifter mechanism and make the interlock solenoid sticky, meaning that it sticks closed when you press the brake and the car won't come out of park.
    • 4 Remove any sticky substance with the alcohol. Start the engine, press the brake and try to move the shifter out of park. If it still does not move then there may be another issue with the interlock.
    • 5 Examine the shifter for a release button that will allow you to move the vehicle out of park so it can be taken to a repair shop. It is usually hidden under a small flap or cover that will have to be lifted with a small screwdriver.

97 mazda 626 wont shift from park. release button on side of shifter wont push in. removed knob, plastic rod in center wont move

The 1st thing you need to do is check the brake lights, if they are not wiorking the park lock solenoid doesn't get power and the park lock remains engaged.

I cant get my car outta park. When i press down the brake and press the knob i feel a clicking in the brake pedal. i cant get my car out of the park positon and need to get work any ideas whats wrong and...

there is a button right beside your shifter that will release the lock underneith the plastic arouns the shifter. remove the plastic rubber around the shifter and lift the plastic up. there will be a button you can press to release the shifter lock in cases of emergency. careful removing the plastic but may require some light prying action to get it off. hit the button with a srewdriver or key and move the shifter out of park. you will still need to be in park or neutral to start the car. the main problem is probably a park/neutral module, a bad shifter, or a brake pedal sensor

Shift gear is stuck on park and can't get it out of gear.

Hi there,

There are multiple things that must all happen in order for the shifter to move from park.

1. Make sure the key ignition switch is in the "Run" position (the position just before the "start" position).

2. Brake pedal is depressed (usually pushed in a couple of inches or more at least to release the button on the shifter).

3. Push in the button on the shifter and pull back (you may need to push the shifter slightly forward or back a little for the button to move freely).

If the button on the shifter still doesn't push in freely, there is a problem with the mechanical lock-out linkage or electronic switch that releases the button lock. Check under the dash area along the brake pedal arm for anything that doesn't look correct.

4. If the car is on an incline/slope/hill, it will put a lot of pressure on the parking pin in the transmission. Usually a strong tug or pull on the shifter will pull it out while you're pushing on the brake pedal to prevent rolling when it releases. Make sure to set the parking/emergency brake first to prevent this next time .

Good Luck!!

Thanks

Toyota corola not shifting, out of park.

This may be caused by the failure of the Relay or Circuit that powers the Safety switch, or Failure of the Brake Light circuit Fuse/Relay, which releases the Shifter.
Look in the Power distribution and Fuse Box.

My 1994 carolla will not shift out of park.

There is a solenoid located under the shifter housing that releases the shifter lock once the break is pressed. One of two three things has likely happened. One, there is gunk or syrup on the solenoid from spilled coffee or soda on it and it needs to be cleaned with alcohol. Two, the solenoid is bad and needs to be replaced. Three, the linkage has popped off or broke and needs to be repaired.

You can override the switch if you need to.

You will need to take the housing off around the shifter and find the solenoid. There is usually a manual override switch that you can push to get it to release. Sometimes it is an off color like pink or red.

GEO TRACKER AUTO shifter does not release from park

I found this online. Check to see if you have back brake lights. If not the fuse for them also triggers the gear release.
