there is a reverse solenoid separate to the others. you may get a serious problem by the use of diesel as that fuel is still in the converter and will affect the transmission oil especially when the oil is hot.run the fault codes to find what is wrong.

No reverse after i park my 1962 ford automatic

Fluid level and a dirty filter are the first things to check, then a band adjustment is next on the list. as the pan needs to come off to change the filter adjst the bands at the same time. the tea levels in the bottom of the oil pan will tell you in there are more serious issues inside.

87 cutlass no reverse

foward and no reverse. In order for the reverse to happen there is a transmission brake assemble, the transmission band holds the brake assembly thus allowing fluid to be driven according to gear selection, when no reverse happens there is a malfunction of mechanical or hydraulic part, Depending on the condition you can adjust the kick down or adjust the band. A general procedure for automatic transmission band adjustment involves tightening the band adjusting screw to a given torque sequence, back off the adjusting screw from turning while torque-tightening the adjustment screw about a 1/4 turn and lock down the lock nut,and recheck to see if reverse has been restored.

#1 check your fluid level
#2 make sure the shifter linkage is ok

Automatic transmission band adjustment

Don't have specs on band but the rule is that it should be close enough to the drum to engage without slamming, and loose enough to permit drum to turn without band dragging on it. Biggest problem I've seen people have when adjusting is that adjustment tightens down while turning lock nut. To avoid this, I usually adjust a bit looser than final adjustment so it tightens to correct position instead of becoming too tight. Don't drive 'till you have it right or you will burn band surface. When engaged in reverse, band should be applied and cannot drag. If you adjusted another band, check that one for improper adjustment.
