Please double check that your dashboard lights are not just dim when the headlights are not on. usually, dash lights get brighter when this happens. Please double check that you don't have a week battery as well. You might need to get the lights within the dashboard replaced.
How long since a tune-up? Any applicable trouble codes? Make sure battery has a full charge and connections all good. If it cranks good but won't start, have a helper crank it while you visually check for spark at the plugs. If spark everywhere, use a gage and check proper fuel pressure and fuel injector pulse. If your missing all three, have to check rpm signal, comes from crank sensor. If the fuel system won't hold pressure, a leaking fuel injector--fuel pressure regulator or it could be leaking back through the fuel pump. I haven't looked at your security system.
Loose connection or alternator issue. Need to check the battery cables for a bad connection going to the alternator or to ground. That light comes on when voltage to the ECU drops below a threshold voltage. Sounds like a bad alternator. The light come on brighter when the engine is off because there is no other electrical load being drawn from the battery ( no coils or injectors or fuel pump running) Recharge the battery and have a mechanic check the charging system.
I doubt the security system would cause the problem. Most systems prevent the starter from working as well as the fuel pump or injectors. And once the starter cranks the engine it should not be involved.
Does it not start or not crank ? If it does not start, you will need to figure out if it is a lack of fuel to the injectors or lack of spark to the plugs to proceed.
Possibly a leaking fuel injector(s). When you floor the gas pedal when cranking it puts the computer into clear flood mode which shuts off the injectors.
Jeeps have a part called the crank sensor, when working properly it
senses the electrical feild produced by flywheel. This crank sensor
which is located on top of the tranny bell housing has been known to go
bad. When this crank sensor goes bad the CPU does not get a crank
reference and the computer will not fire the injectors. This crank
sensor will fail under high temps and if it is old will fail also when
cold.
You have to find out if the injectors are getting a pulse when the car does'nt start.
please.. 1991 chevy lumina..mech has car for 4 days..
repl ICM.ECM..checked ..all fuses.cranks..no run..smell fuel.
says spark good.Fuel press @ 42. put light on fuel injec sensor
..tells me weak signal( light shud be brighter) .Says it ran once
in 4 days for 2 min & died..." tells me injectors not accepting fuel
