The car shakes when applying the brakes when driving at speeds over 55 mph. What is likely to be the problem?
Warped front brake rotors. If a brake job has been done before you will need new rotors. Make sure to inspect the caliper for binding side pins, clean & lube then if not seized. Important note-Torque the wheel lugs evenly to 80ft.lbs.

change the rotors you most likly have a thickness variation causing the brakes to pulsate
SOURCE: Shake in steering wheel
I believe you need your disk brake rotors turned to be true again or have them replaced. Whe you use your brakes a lot and kit puddles of cold water then it will warp the rotors which will cause the violent shaking. You may not feel it in the brake pedal even if it is warped rotors. If you don't think you have warped rotors then you should be very careful driving it because it will probably be in the steering sector arm or the idler arm on the steering shaft.

hi from uk the only thing i would be concerned about at this moment is the grinding when brakes applied ? this sounds very much like your brake pads are very low and most likely worne to the point of damage(grinding metal to rotor contact) is the sound you hear also the abs will sense this and due to unbalance of braking to each wheel abs will operate however i would have thought your car may have low pads warning indicator light system fitted but may not ? may i suggest considering age and possible high milage of your car ? if you have not had pads inspected recently? you do so asap b4 you drive any distance especially at speed ?
